Planning Your Dream Vow Renewal

I’ve been married for a little over 14 years and while my wedding was beautiful, it was very traditional. Things like Pinterest and Etsy didn’t exist when I was planning my wedding. I can honestly tell you, if it did exist, I would have had something TOTALLY different! Thankfully I have a daughter and hopefully she lets me go all mom of the bride on her wedding! A few times I’ve thought about how great it would be to have another wedding (to the same man, of course!) and plan it the way I would now. If you were to check out my Pinterest account, you would see my board dedicated to the vow renewal I dream about! Feel free to check it out, repin to your own boards and check out all the great Etsy finds to help personalize your dream wedding or dream vow renewal!

First things first…save the dates! I don’t believe we sent those out the first time around. It really wasn’t the thing to do at the time. However, given that we are already married and the whole vow renewal is a little different, I want to make sure that our friends and family save the date!! These magnet save the dates are perfect!!

My ideal dream vow renewal would be in a rustic barn with twinkling lights, drinks served in mason jars and everything written on chalk boards. So when I ran across these adorable wedding invitations, I knew they were perfect for the vow renewal! I especially like that you can download the template and print them yourself!! That will definitely save you money!!

The really sad thing about my wedding is the fact that our photographer was horrible. He didn’t take any pictures of my dad and I walking down the aisle together…apparently he didn’t know we wanted that (I have no idea why he thought that). After seeing the proofs, my husband and I broke our contract with him and as a result, we have zero professional wedding photos. That is something that still upsets me to this day. So for our vow renewal, I plan on wearing a white dress again. Maybe not as fancy (or as expensive) as before, but I want it to look like a wedding dress in pictures. This lace wedding dress is perfect…and my daughter saw it and thought it was pretty. Maybe she’ll wear it one day…

Over the years, I have seen some really neat guest book ideas. One wedding I went to, they had you stamp a thumbprint on a canvas with a tree painted on it and write your names. It was super neat! This bucket list guest book is unique and definitely something I have never seen before at a wedding!

Wedding cake toppers are another way for a bride and groom to show their personality a bit. You can go traditional with the bride and groom figurines on top of the cake or you can do what we did and just add a pretty flower arrangement on top. However, I really like this simple cake topper with our initials and a heart. Made out of wood, it’s simple look fits in with the theme I am going with!

At our wedding, we made a mixed CD with our favorite music and that was both the wedding favor and the thing that told people where to sit. I’ve often thought about doing a wedding remix CD. Everyone loved the CD idea and we have people telling us they still listen to the CD! So…for my dream vow renewal, I would probably do another CD as the wedding favor. These custom CD sleeves are perfect!

  1. A vow renewal would be nice in a few years. I haven’t really started planning for it yet.

  2. My husband and I just celebrated 24 years of marriage! We had a vow renewal for our 10th anniversary. It was simple and rather private. We’re planning on a much more formal vow renewal for our 25th. We were married in Paris, France, my home town and it was absolutely magical. But we live in LA and many of our contemporary friends could not make it to our wedding so we’ve been waiting for the perfect opportunity to throw a huge party and include everyone 🙂

  3. That dress is gorgeous and I absolutely love the cards!

  4. What a super fun idea!! I’m not planning anything at the moment… but maybe one day 🙂

  5. Jacqui Odell says:

I did one a few years ago. It was simple and personal. We did it outside in the black hills.

  6. We renewed our vows for our 10th wedding anniversary 15 years ago and it was such a wonderful, special and meaningful event. Love the things you have chosen for your special day – and the beautiful dress especially. I hope you are able to have your dream vow renewal soon.
