Shopping Made Easy with Stitch Fix

A few years ago, I heard someone talking about Stitch Fix. I will admit, I thought it sounded silly and a totally frivolous thing to spend money on. And then a friend of mine posted pictures of things she got in her Stitch Fix box and I thought, “I want to try this”. It just so happen that if I used her referral link, I would get a $25 credit. I figured I didn’t have anything to lose! Be sure to keep on reading to find out how you can get your very own $25 credit too!

Fashion and being trendy has never really mattered to me. However, now that I’ve lost close to 90 lbs. and kept it off for well over two years, I’m starting to venture out and try new things. So when I saw I could try Stitch Fix AND get a $25 credit to do so, I had to do it. Believe me, I was super skeptical. I am a person that needs to try EVERYTHING on.

What Did I Think of My Stitch Fix Box?

I knew my box was due to arrive today. Let me tell you. I was like a kid on Christmas morning. When I saw that box on my porch, I immediately grabbed it and ran upstairs to try things on. I was super nervous too. How could I not be? Like I said, I have to try everything on and my clothing size is not consistent from brand to brand. The first thing I pulled out of the box was a black blouse with flowers on it (I think they are dandelions, actually). My initial reaction was, “ugh…I’d never wear this”. Boy was I wrong!

This shirt is something I would have 100% passed up in a store. It’s not a fabric I would ever pick and the pattern is not something I would gravitate to either. However, I tried it on and instantly felt good in it. I can’t explain it. I just loved it. This definitely went in the buy pile.

What About Everything else?

The other items I got in my box are:

  • Light denim jacket
  • Long black maxi dress
  • White shorts
  • Keds shoes

When I saw shorts in the box, I almost didn’t try them on. I can’t tell you how many pairs of shorts I tried on this year before settling on the few pairs I bought. They were either too short, too tight, or they gapped open in the back and half my butt showed. So, as you can imagine, I didn’t have high hopes for these shorts. But…I kid you not…the darn things FIT! How is that possible? I really have no clue, but they fit like they were made for me. While I know that should mean I should have bought them, they were white and I’m not a fan of white shorts/pants for me.

The maxi dress was so nice! I really liked it and really wanted to buy it, but it was slightly too big on top. I know I could have sent it back for a smaller size, but I don’t know that it would have fit my lower half. The denim jacket as nice also. It’s just not something I see myself wearing. And finally, the Keds shoes. They were cute, but I’m having knee issues, so I need to be picky about what type of shoes I wear.

Why I think My Stitch Fix Was So Successful

I was crazy specific in my profile. So specific, I was afraid I scared off my stylist! Not even joking! However, that’s what you need to do. I told her that I was curvy and have an issue with shorts/pants gapping in the back. When it came to things I liked and didn’t like, I made a list and told her everything. I also made sure to list out the things I do not want. Things like jewelry and accessories. At the moment, I need clothes. Once I build up my wardrobe, then I can add in the accessories!

Marvel Studios’ Avegers: Infinity War

We had to have been the only house on the entire planet that had not seen the Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War movie. My son had been asking to go see it, but with everything we have had going on, it just didn’t work out. When I was asked to review the Blu-ray (available on August 14, 2018), I jumped at the chance! And let me tell you, I have one happy child (and husband, if we’re being honest) because we had one heck of an epic family movie night!

Cedar Point Amusement Park

For the last few years, my daughter has begged us to take her to Cedar Point. If you are not familiar with Cedar Point, it is an amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio. The last few summers, it didn’t really work with our schedule to plan a day there. I knew I wanted to take here there. Growing up, I loved roller coasters and I knew she would like them too. We were able to finally plan a trip there last weekend!

A few days before we took the kids to Cedar Point, a friend of mine texted me to let me know that the amusement park had a fantastic deal going on…buy one ticket get one ticket free! If you have that is not a fan of most rides and roller coasters, like we do, this is the deal to take advantage of. Despite not riding many rides, our son had a fun day at the park. Hindsight being 20/20, we should have gotten that child the food plan. He would have taken FULL advantage of it!

Getting Ready for Cedar Point

The last time I was at Cedar Point, was over 15 years ago. A lot has changed since then. Since we are relatively close, we planned on driving up the morning of and driving home after the park closed. However, after doing that, I would highly recommend getting a hotel room near the park. It was a long, tiring drive home after many many hours at the park, in the hot sun. There are many hotel rooms near the park and, after reading a little on their website, it looks like if you stay at certain hotels, you can get into the park early! Well worth it!

Things We Packed

Back in the day, when you went to Cedar Point, you always made sure to have a bunch of quarters with you for the lockers. Not anymore! Now you pay one fee for the entire day and you can come and go as many times as you need to. It was perfect for us. We packed a backpack and stuffed it in the locker at the front of the park. The things we took are:

  • Motrin and Tylenol (I have knee issues and we weren’t sure how my knee would hold up walking all day)
  • Sunscreen
  • Power Bankcedar point to charge our phones
  • Long sleeve shirts

As I said, we went to the locker multiple times and it really worked out well for us. The locker cost $15 for the day. I may be old school on a lot of things, but I liked that you could come and go as many times as you needed!

Rides, Rides, and More Rides!

This was our kids first trip to an amusement park. While our son was not overly enthused about roller coasters and most rides, our daughter was beside herself to be there. The first ride we went on was the Raptor. Back in the day, that was my absolute FAVORITE roller coaster. I was excited to take Bella on it. She was nervous, but had so much fun! She couldn’t wait to go on my rides!

cedar point

We went to Cedar Point on a Saturday. It was crazy busy. Being the only day we had available, whatever the ride waits were, we had to just deal with it. However, in talking to a few people that go to the park all the time, they recommended that our next visit be on a Tuesday or Wednesday, as those days seem to be less crowded. Despite the crowds, we still went on everything we wanted to and had a blast. While the Raptor was originally my favorite roller coaster at the park, my new favorite is the Rougarou!

Non-Roller Coaster People

As I mentioned, my son is not fond of roller coasters. Cedar Point has so much to offer for non-roller coaster people! Zack and Bella had fun on several of the “carnival” type rides like the Matterhorn. They also have bumper cars and several areas for smaller children. There is definitely something for everyone at Cedar Point! Not to mention, the people watching is always fun! Both my son and I are total people watchers!

cedar point

Cedar Point is definitely a place we will be visiting again. Not only did we have fun (even those of us that didn’t ride much), but they also have Chick Fil-A! For this Michigan gal, I was very excited to be able to enjoy one of my favorite places for dinner! One tip…purchase the souvenir cup. The cup was around $15, but you could refill the cup every 15 minutes! It was definitely worth it. Plus, if I am not mistaken, when we visit Kings Island later in the summer, I believe we can take the cup there for $1 refills!

Have you been to Cedar Point before?

Back to School Supplies for Middle School

We are approaching that time in summer where we need to start thinking about back to school supplies. I know, I really don’t want to think about it, but with one kid starting high school mid-August and another child starting middle school the day after Labor day, back to school supplies is something we need to start picking up. The school supplies for middle school will be a bit different than what we are used to picking up for elementary school.

My daughter is going into sixth grade and she is beyond excited. She’s excited to have her own locker, supplies that is just hers, and she is excited to travel between classes. After going through the middle school years once already with her older brother, we have a handle on what exactly is needed.

School Supplies for Middle School

Cinch Sack

For some stupid reason, in our district, kids cannot use backpacks at the middle school level (they can in high school). However, they are allowed a cinch sack. We’ve purchased this cinch sack and really like it for a number of reasons.

adidas Alliance Ii Sackpack, Bright Cyan/Black/White, One Sizeadidas Alliance Ii Sackpack, Bright Cyan/Black/White, One Size

One of the reasons we like this one (besides the color!!) is that it can fit a water bottle on the side. If you are allowed to use a cinch, but not a backpack, GET ONE! It can hold those little random things that you need, but can’t carry easily from class to class. Also, for girls that have or may start their period, it can hold their supplies for that, as well.

Zippered Binder

Again, for those that can’t use a backpack (or those that don’t want to), a zippered binder is a must have item. We found one that has a file folder section in it that you can put tabs on for each class. This is a good place for kids to put their homework from each class or notes that must get home.

Case-it Mighty Zip Tab 3-Inch Zipper Binder, Black, D-146-BLKCase-it Mighty Zip Tab 3-Inch Zipper Binder, Black, D-146-BLK

This is the binder we got. One of the features I like is that it comes with a shoulder strap so your child can wear it across their body for easy carrying. It’s very heavy duty and holds up to the daily use.

Loose Leaf Paper

This is kind a no brainer and you probably think I’m crazy for mentioning it, but there is a specific loose leaf paper you should buy. Trust me. It’s well worth the couple cents more.

Five Star Loose Leaf Paper, 3 Hole Punched, Reinforced Filler Paper, College Ruled, 11Five Star Loose Leaf Paper, 3 Hole Punched, Reinforced Filler Paper, College Ruled, 11

This loose leaf paper has reinforced holes! Such a genius product and well worth it for the kids. I can remember many nights in middle school and high school where I was forced to put those little circle stickers over the holes of my loose leaf paper (always on both sides) just to make sure I didn’t lose my notes. Not anymore. These kids don’t know how good they got it now! This is a pretty good price for it too!

Mechanical Pencils

I was not a pro-mechanical pencil person because we had a TON of regular pencils. But after seeing how teachers would get upset with kids for needing to sharpen a pencil or how crappy the regular pencils are, it just became apparent that we needed to buy the mechanical type. Here are the ones we swear by:

BIC Xtra-Life Mechanical Pencil, 0.7 mm, 40-CountBIC Xtra-Life Mechanical Pencil, 0.7 mm, 40-Count

Again, stock up. This is an excellent price…works out to be about $0.16 a pencil! Buy lots because your kids will go through them!

Those are the top four things you will need for middle school. Of course, each individual teacher may have their items that they want kids to have, but the items above are the general school supplies for middle school items you can’t do without…in my opinion. Other items we found useful are listed below. Our district uses Chromebooks. This year we are opting to buy our daughter her own and utilize the Bring Your Own Device program. The Chromebooks the district have for the kids have seen better days.

Top Reasons Why You Need an Air Fryer Today!

At Christmas, I was hell bent on getting an Instant Pot. Everyone I knew had them and somehow I had convinced myself that an Instant Pot would make my life easier. Of course, like I do, I Googled the heck out of it and read some horror stories and then scared myself out of wanting one. Not to mention, it seemed like all the recipes were super involved. Not for me. Instead, I decided to get an Air Fryer. Let me tell you, that was the best decision ever! I use it multiple times a week, if not every single day!

Top Reasons YOU Need an Air Fryer

I know what you’re thinking…the last thing you need is another kitchen applianceneed air fryer taking up space. Normally I would agree with you. However, this appliance will be your favorite and most used appliance in your kitchen. Not even joking!

Reason #1 – You can make your favorite deep fried foods, but without all the hassle of the bucket of oil, the risk of getting splattered by the oil, and without the damaging affects eating heavily fried foods does to our bodies. With the air fryer, you use very little oil. The air is what fries the food. Neat, huh?!?

Reason #2 – Foods take minutes to make. My favorite thing to make in the air fryer at the moment, is fried radishes. I know. It sounds weird, but it’s so good. I spritz a little oil on the cut radishes, use my favorite seasonings and they go in the air fryer for about 15 minutes. 15 minutes is about the longest anything has ever taken in this thing!

Radishes not your thing? Well then try this air fried Spicy Brussel Sprouts recipe. It’s a favorite of ours!

Reason #3 – Looking for something a little larger for your family? The air fryer has you covered with the air fryer oven. Eventually I will be upgrading to this. I was at the gym one day and as I was on the elliptical, I watched an infomercial for the oven and you can cook a whole chicken in there for about 30 minutes. Amazing!

Are you convinced yet?

Currently, besides veggies, our favorite things to make in the air fryer are burgers, polish sausages, and popcorn shrimp for my son. Mine came with a little baking dish that I can make a cheesecake in there. I haven’t tried it yet, but it’s on my list!! A Keto cheesecake would be a great idea! You literally can make whatever you would like in here. It’s also nice not heating up the kitchen with the oven for things like my sons popcorn shrimp, their chicken fingers, etc!
