Total Kick Butt Baked Beans!!

Normally I am not a big baked bean fan, but my husband loves them and we were having friends over for a BBQ so I made them. They were AWESOME! Absolutely the best baked beans I have ever had (if I don’t say so myself)!

So I figured I would share it with you all. I got the recipe from here.

Southern Baked Beans

1 can baked beans
1/4 cup onions, chopped (I used dried minced onions because I did not have an onion)
1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/4 cup Ketchup
2 tsp mustard
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce

I put everything in the crock pot until it was nice and bubbly, then switched it to warm until ready to serve.

Yum Yum!!

What am I going to do with him??

My son that is. That child is a something else. Last year he picked up the word “damn”. At one point he wanted his middle named to be changed to “Dammit” because he thought that was a much better sounding middle name than the one he was given.

My husband and I had tried everything to get him to stop saying that word. But of course, he knew it bothered us, so he said it more often. Finally in a last ditch effort to save my sanity and stop being embarrassed in public, I told him that he can only say that word in his room.

We haven’t really heard it out of him since. The other night, however, I was walking past his room after he had gone to bed and I hear him singing:

“I’m in my damn damn room. My damn damn room. I can say damn in my damn damn room. I like the word damn, but can only say it in my damn damn room…” and so on.

We sat out there listening to him, hands over our mouths and realized one thing. One very important thing. Our child had FINALLY listened to something we told him!

Here’s hoping he doesn’t decide to sing his song at preschool in a couple weeks!

Must See T.V.

This is kind of icky, gross, yet fascinating all at the same time.

Brad Garrett, you know, that funny guy from Everybody Loves Raymond is going to have a prostate exam LIVE on television on September 5th. Now you may be asking yourself, “why in the world would he do something like that?”…and trust me, I thought that very same thing.

The answer is simple, on September 5th at 8pm EST, NBC, ABC, and CBS will be airing Stand up to Cancer. During that show, Brad Garrett will be getting a prostate exam live for all to see. If Brad Garrett’s exam doesn’t seem all that interesting to you, there are plenty of other acts that may. Such as Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus, Christina Applegate, and many many more.

And here is a super super cool thing. Head on over to Stand up for Cancer’s site and donate at least one dollar. Why? Well not only are you donating to a good cause, but your donation will launch a personalized star in honor of someone who was diagnosed with cancer.

Definitely check it out!

I just LOVE my Kids!

They may irritate me some days with their whining, fighting, screaming, etc. But then there are other days, more times that not, when I just look at them and can’t believe how much I love them! Here are some of the things they do that I just love so much:

  • Z knocked B over by accident outside and made her cry. I was about to go outside when I saw Z help her up and hold her while she cried…awww!
  • They like to take a shower together. They will stand and dance under the water for an hour if I let them. Laughing and talking and splashing!
  • Every time Tom and Jerry Tales comes on, B meows at the T.V. It is just the cutest and funniest thing ever.
  • When Z goes outside, he is constantly looking for an all spark. For those of you that don’t know, an all spark has something to do with Transformers.

Those are just a few incidences…there are many many more. Leave a comment with something you just love about your kids. Something that makes you all warm and fuzzy to think about!

Adding Fiber to Your Diet

You’ve probably heard that it is very good for your health to add fiber to your diet. According to the Mayo Clinic:

“Dietary fiber — found mainly in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes — is probably best known for its ability to prevent or relieve constipation. But fiber can provide other health benefits as well, such as lowering your risk of diabetes and heart disease.”

You can read the rest of the Mayo Clinic article here.

I recently read about a good way to add a little extra fiber. Buy the original Fiber One cereal and crush it in a blender. When you want to bread chicken or pork, bread it using the fiber one. Thats what I did tonight. I dipped the chicken in fat free Catalina dressing and then dipped it in the crushed Fiber One . I added a few other seasonings to the Fiber One, as well.

Baked it in the oven at 375 degrees for 45 mins. It was soooo good! Even my son, king of picky eaters, devoured it!
