Fuzzy Navel Homemade Gummy Bears

Making homemade gummy bears has become quite the thing in our house! Everyone has their favorite flavors. My husband loves the lime gummy bears and my kids love the raspberry gummy bears…me, on the other hand, I think the Fuzzy Navel gummy bears I made yesterday are the best! These non-alcoholic version of fuzzy navel cocktails are delicious! Just the right amount of peach and orange flavors to really compliment one another. Using my gummy bear moldfuzzy navel I found on Amazon, making these gummy bears are super easy! Especially since the mold I bought comes with a dropper…trust me…you want the mold with the dropper!

Don’t you love how easy it is to make fuzzy navel gummy bears? Next time I make these, I plan on sprinkling a little citric acidfuzzy navel on the fuzzy navel gummy bears to make them like the sour gummy candies that I used to love! I used to eat that candy until my mouth was raw! If you are following the Keto diet plan like I am, these fuzzy navel gummy bears are a nice little treat for you to have! 4 or 5 gummy bears is about 1 g protein! And trust me, when you have given up sugar for as long as I have, those 4 or 5 gummy bears are plenty!

Have you made your own gummy bears yet? What flavor combinations do you like?

Homemade Gummy Bears

I’ve successfully given up sugar for the last 66 days. Say what? I know. It’s crazy. I am the person that used to be horribly addicted to sugar. However, since starting the Keto diet (and losing 44 lbs…go me!), I no longer crave sugar. At all. I can walk into a candy shop and not want to buy anything. Not because I am forcing myself to stick to this diet, but because I just don’t want it. However, there are those times, and I fully admit that it is purely psychological, when I feel like I want something gummy. When that happens, I make my homemade gummy bears!

Making Homemade Gummy Bears!

The homemade gummy bear recipe is super easy. My friend Greg was the one that told me how to make them. Basically you take:

  • 1 big box of Sugar Free Jello
  • 2 packets of Knox Unflavored Gelatin
  • 1/2 cup water

I ordered this particular mold because it came in a two pack AND it came with the little dropper. Let me tell you…that dropper is ESSENTIAL! Just make sure you allow the air bubbles in the dropper to go up to the top or you will end up with bubbles on your gummy bears like I have on a couple at the top!

How Did They Turn Out?

For this particular batch of homemade gummy bears, I decided to use a small package of strawberry Jello and a small package of lemon Jello to make Strawberry Lemonade homemade gummy bears! They are so good! You could totally use the one large box of Jello and make a single flavor, but coming up with different flavors is fun! Next I will be making Lemon Lime and a Fuzzy Navel homemade gummy bear (peach Jello with orange Jello)

Aren’t the homemade gummy bears cute?!? Definitely give these a try! If you are following the Keto diet, this recipe made 94 gummy bears. Using My Fitness Pal, you can totally figure out how many of the gummy bears you can eat for the amount of protein you would like. For instance, one gummy bear has 0 g Fat, 0 g Carbs and 0.3 g Protein. I just ate four gummy bears and that is 1 g Protein!

You can totally buy gummy bears at the store, if you would like…or you can make your own flavors at home using the adorable mold from Amazon!! I did read that you can make sour gummy bears by using Citric Acidhomemade gummy bears, but I haven’t tried that yet!

Spicy Chicken Thighs Recipe

Since starting the Keto diet, I have learned to love chicken thighs. I know that sounds weird, but up until about a month ago, I never bought chicken thighs before. Honestly, I don’t know why…they are so much cheaper than chicken breasts AND they have a lot more flavor too! One of my favorite recipes that uses chicken thighs is this Chorizo Chicken Soup recipe. It’s delicious! The other day I picked up a package of chicken thighs and made one of the best dinners, even my son declared it a winner! This spicy chicken thighs recipe is also Keto friendly!! Not only is it Keto friendly, but it is also the best chicken thigh recipe EVER!

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Season your chicken thighs on both sides with your garlic and pepper seasoning.
  3. Melt the butter in a microwave safe bowl. Mix the Frank’s Red Hot Sauce in with the butter.
  4. Dip each chicken thigh into the butter and hot sauce mixture, allowing excess to drip off before placing it on your baking sheet with sides, skin side down (I like the Norpro Stainless Steel Baking Panspicy chicken thighs). For more even cooking, place a rack on top of the baking sheet.
  5. Bake in the oven for 35-40 minutes. After the time is up, take the chicken out of the oven, turn the oven to broil (on high), flip the chicken over so it is skin side up, and broil for 15 minutes to get the skin nice and crispy. You may want to rotate the pan halfway through. Don’t they look like the best roasted chicken thighs?

spicy chicken thighs

If you are looking for recipes for chicken thighs, this is a must try recipe! I think next time I make them, I will use this spicy garlic seasoningspicy chicken thighs I picked up to add an extra kick! I know some people prefer boneless skinless chicken thighs and that’s OK. I’m sure you could use them in this recipe. You may want to reserve some of the butter/hot sauce mixture to brush on to the chicken periodically while they cook, but it should still turn out great. I haven’t made it this way, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t. Now I’m on the hunt for some good slow cooker chicken thighs recipes! I’m all about those chicken thighs!

Dessert Recipe: Springtime Muddy Buddies

Despite the fact that we just got dumped with a ton of snow, I can’t help thinking about spring coming soon and the Easter dinner I want to host. When I start thinking about hosting Easter, I then start thinking about what delicious dessert recipe I will make. Since my husband and I are following the Keto diet, I will probably make a cheesecake (no crust) for the adults and for the kids I was thinking about making this yummy Springtime Muddy Buddies recipe! Not only is it pretty with the springtime colors, but also a gluten free dessert recipe!

Chorizo Chicken Soup Recipe

For a little over a week now, I have been following the Keto Diet. If you aren’t familiar with the diet, Google it. I’m telling you, this is the first diet I have ever done that doesn’t feel like a diet at all. I’m never hungry; I have plenty of foods to eat; and most importantly, I’m losing weight and inches. Lots of weight! My first week I lost 7 lbs. I know I also lost inches too. A pair of jeans that couldn’t button two weeks ago, can now! I’ve also lost ALL cravings for food. Here’s a great book I found on Amazon about the Keto diet: Keto Diet for Beginners. Seriously…get the book and give this diet a try! One of the amazing foods I’m eating this week is Chorizo Chicken Soup.

Chorizo Chicken Soup

chorizo chicken soup

  • 4 lbs Boneless Skinless Chicken Thighs
  • 1 lb Hot Chorizo
  • 4 cups Chicken Stock
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 can Stewed Tomatoes with garlic
  • 2 TBSP Minced Garlic
  • 2 TBSP Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 TBSP Frank’s Red Hot Sauce

For the rest of the recipe and directions, please visit Caveman Keto.

When I ran across this recipe, I knew I had to make it! It sounded (and looked) absolutely delicious to me. My recipe varies slightly from the original in that I chose to use hot chorizo instead of regular. We like spicy foods in our house! I also added 2 TBSP of shredded Parmesan Cheese when I ate it. If you are following the Keto Diet and you decide to make this soup, be sure to put all of your ingredients into a recipe on My Fitness Pal to get the correct calories/fat/protein/carbs for your ingredients. I scanned each of mine and came up with slightly different numbers than what is shown on the original site. Not a huge discrepancy, but definitely different!

Variations you can make with this recipe:

  • Use a precooked rotisserie chicken to cut down on time.
  • Regular Chorizo vs Hot Chorizo.
  • Fresh minced garlic vs. dried minced garlic (I used dried. My jar of fresh smelled funky).
  • There are a variety of different kinds of stewed tomatoes. I bought the can with garlic in it…we like garlic here!
