Have you ever had something happen in your life that completely rocked you to the core? Something that you never thought you would be able to come back from? Something that completely puts a dark cloud over your life? If you haven’t, consider yourself lucky because I have and let me tell you, it’s not fun. You start doubting everything around you. Fearing the absolute worst every single time the phone rings or your credit card takes a little longer to process at the store. Every little bitty thing that happens always comes back to that one thing. Always. Worst of all, you stop celebrating life’s miracles.

celebrating life's miracles

So, without going into too many details, five years ago, my husband was laid off. I remember all kinds of thoughts going through my head. Things like, whether or not we would lose our house; how we would pay for things; how we would take care of our two kids. Those thoughts consumed my mind day and night. At some points, I was unable to properly function because my anxiety was through the roof. I completely stopped seeing the beauty of life around me, like in the picture above from Sleeping Bear Dunes. Most importantly, I stopped having fun with my kids. Every thought I had was consumed with finding a job and making money. I completely stopped celebrating life’s miracles…my kids.

celebrating life's miracles

It’s been five years, he found a job relatively quickly, and I am slowly coming out of my funk. My husband, not trying to be mean to me or anything, has made the comment that I’m not the same person anymore. He’s completely right. I’m not. I lost a part of me and it’s taken me five long years to realize that and to want that back. A few weeks ago, I started my own 5 Minute Journal. My journal is broken up into two parts. In the morning I write three things I am grateful for, three things I will do to make the day great, and one affirmation. In the evening, I reflect upon my day and write three amazing things that happened that day and one thing that could have made the day even better. I can honestly say that in the short few weeks that I have made it a point to focus on the positive, rather than the negative, I have felt better. My life feels more grounded. Most of all, I feel like I want to celebrate life’s miracles again.

So, this past weekend, my husband and I watched the movie, Miracles from Heaven, starring Jennifer Garner, Kylie Rogers, Martin Henderson (doctor from Grey’s Anatomy…I’ll save you from Googling him mid-movie like I did!), Eugenio Derbez and Queen Latifah. If you haven’t seen that movie, then you need to. Stop by your local Walmart store and pick up a copy. Be sure to also pick up some extra tissues. You will need them because this movie is full of love, faith and spirit. It WILL move you!

If you aren’t familiar with the movie, Miracles from Heaven, it is a movie inspired by true events with the Beam family. They go through every parent’s worst nightmare. Their child is sick and there is nothing that can be done. From beginning to end, you are able to see how this family’s love for one another, their faith in God, and a little bit of life’s miracles help them get through one of the toughest times in their life. For more information about this movie, check them out on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

I’m not going to lie. This movie really helped to put things in perspective for me. It made me even more determined to get back to celebrating life’s miracles. Like I mentioned above, I had already begun working on refocusing my life and trying to celebrate life’s miracles again, but after seeing this movie and knowing that both my husband and I are healthy and our kids are healthy, it reaffirmed for me that in life, that’s all that matters. Everything else can and will work out so long as you focus on what matters and have a little faith.

Toddler Halloween Costume Ideas

Summer is quickly coming to an end and before we know it, school will be starting. Some parts of the country are already starting school or will be in the next couple weeks. My kids don’t go back to school until after Labor Day. Once school starts, it will be fall before we know it and then Halloween will hit. My kids have already started talking about what they want to be for Halloween. Bella is still very much into dressing up and trick or treating. While Zack, the big bad middle schooler, just wants to dress up so he can go trick or treating. No costume, no candy is the rule in this house! While I give candy to anyone in a costume, it’s the toddler Halloween costume that gets me every time. So cute!

As I was going through pictures, I ran across a few pictures of my kids when they were toddlers and their Halloween costumes were so cute! One year my daughter wore a costume that made it look like she was riding a unicorn. I think that was probably my most favorite costumes I ever bought her! My son always seemed to drift towards the super hero costumes. Especially the costumes that had the built in muscles. He liked those a lot! If I could go back in time, I think I would do Halloween a little differently and really go all out and put a little more thought into their costumes. Since I won’t be having any more toddlers in my house, I found a bunch of adorable toddler Halloween costume ideas I just had to share with you!

Toddler Halloween Costume Ideas

Anyone can go to the store and purchase a cute toddler Halloween costume. Shoot…I did each and every year. I have no idea if Etsy was even around when my kids were toddlers, but I can tell you right now, if it was, I would have been buying my costumes from there. Not only are they super cute, but I would totally dress my kids in them outside of Halloween. That’s how cute and versatile they are! Here are a few of my favorites…

What little girl wouldn’t want to be a mermaid for Halloween (or any time of the year)? This adorable mermaid costume is not only unique, but it is something any little girl would want to wear, even after trick or treating. Shoot…I’m 35 years old and I want to be a mermaid!

While super heroes are very popular among toddler boys and girls, and who can blame them?!? Why not make your toddler a true super hero with this custom made and personalized super hero cape!! I can’t tell you how many little boys I see at the grocery store wearing a cape…they would love to have one personalized just for them!!

Are your kids into dinosaurs? I know mine were as toddlers (and even now as tweens). My daughter even wanted to be a dinosaur one year, but when she tried the costume on, she didn’t like how it felt on her. This dinosaur cape would have been perfect for her! It comes in three colors and it is very inexpensive, which is a huge plus in my book!

Admittedly, we are a video game family. My kids both new who the Mario Bros. were early on. My daughter always loved Mario. In fact, one year, she wanted to dress up as Mario and have my son dress up as Luigi! This girls Super Mario costume is absolutely adorable!!

Maybe your child would prefer something a little more simple. If that sounds like him or her, then you need to check out this Power Rangers costume. The cool thing about this costume is that it goes up to a size Youth XL! Choose your favorite ranger and you will have a costume you can wear all year long!

Personalized Back to School Items

It’s back to school time! That means shopping, shopping and more shopping! I’ll admit, I actually love this time of year. Not only does it show me there is an end in site for all this bickering between the kids, but I love buying school supplies! Different colored folders, notebooks, loose leaf paper, pencils…I love buying all of it! Well, except for that one time my son’s teacher wanted twisty crayons. Those were not easy to find! Since the days of shared supplies is over for my kids, and my daughter LOVES to have everything she owns personalized, I’ve put together a list of some super cute personalized back to school items you just need to get your kids this year!! They will thank you just like this old Meijer commercial!

I remember, shortly after this commercial came out, we were in Meijer and I put glue in the cart and my son, being the comedian he is, started yelling “glue. You got me glue. Thank you. Thank you”. It was pretty funny.

One thing I wish I would have done when my kids first started school was one of those First Day of School signs. This one I found on Etsy is absolutely adorable and way nicer than ANYTHING I could put together! I’m so not crafty! Not to mention, I hate touching chalk, so I would definitely need to use these chalk markerspersonalized back to school! I love all the colors!

I never really thought personalized pencils were that big of a deal until my kids each got a pack of pencils with their names on it. They thought those were AWESOME! And…with their names on the pencil, no one can walk off with it and say it’s theirs! If your kids first names all start with the same letter, just get the first initial with the last name and anyone can use the pencils!! You can even get mechanical pencils personalized!

personalized back to school

My daughter absolutely loved the year she got to take a pencil box to school. You would have thought the supply list said, “you’re going to get ice cream every single day”! She was that excited. Why not make those pencil boxes even more exciting and get a personalized one?!? You pick the color box AND the color vinyls you would like used!

Making sure our kids stay hydrated during their long day at school is super important. If they are hydrated, not only do they feel better, but their brain is able to learn better. These personalized water bottles are super cute and I like that they can clip to the backpack! Makes taking it to and from school super easy!! You can choose the colors AND the design that you would like!!

personalized back to school

This next item is another one that I wish I would have thought of when my kids first started school. The first day of school shirt is super cute. Basically you buy this t-shirt in a size that you think your kid may wear when they are graduating school (I would get an Adult XL) and have them put this shirt on for first day of school pictures every year until their last year of high school! How super cute is that?!?

personalized back to school

Aren’t these things cute?!? Whether you have kids just starting out in school (definitely get the chalkboard and t-shirt!!) or your kids have been in school awhile, there is definitely something here for everyone! I especially like the personalized water bottles that clip to their backpacks. What personalized back to school item do you like most?

Happy back to school time! Hope your kids have a fabulous year!

Adventures in Babysitting on DVD

In the summer, when our schedule is a little lighter, I tend to let the kids watch a little more TV in the evening than I normally do. I love when I can turn on a channel I know has good movies and television shows that I can trust. The Disney Channel is one of those channels. One of the things my daughter gets excited for are the Disney Channel original movies. She sees commercial after commercial and all I hear leading up to the big day is how much she can’t wait to watch the movie! This past Friday, the Disney Channel aired it’s 100th original movie, Adventures in Babysitting and like every movie before it, this movie was a huge success!!

*I received a copy of this movie for the purpose of this review. All opinions are mine alone*

About Adventures in Babysitting

If you are as old as I am, you may remember the 1980s movieadventures in babysitting with the same name. This years Adventures in Babysitting was hugely inspired by that 1980s classic and it stars Sabrina Carpenter (Girl Meets World) and Sofia Carson (Descendants). In this particular movie, two girls, babysitting two different families, get the adventure of a lifetime when one of the kids sneaks off to the city and they spend all night searching for him.

Planning Your Dream Vow Renewal

I’ve been married for a little over 14 years and while my wedding was beautiful, it was very traditional. Things like Pinterest and Etsy didn’t exist when I was planning my wedding. I can honestly tell you, if it did exist, I would have had something TOTALLY different! Thankfully I have a daughter and hopefully she lets me go all mom of the bride on her wedding! A few times I’ve thought about how great it would be to have another wedding (to the same man, of course!) and plan it the way I would now. If you were to check out my Pinterest account, you would see my board dedicated to the vow renewal I dream about! Feel free to check it out, repin to your own boards and check out all the great Etsy finds to help personalize your dream wedding or dream vow renewal!

dream vow renewal

First things first…save the dates! I don’t believe we sent those out the first time around. It really wasn’t the thing to do at the time. However, given that we are already married and the whole vow renewal is a little different, I want to make sure that our friends and family save the date!! These magnet save the dates are perfect!!

dream vow renewal

My ideal dream vow renewal would be in a rustic barn with twinkling lights, drinks served in mason jars and everything written on chalk boards. So when I ran across these adorable wedding invitations, I knew they were perfect for the vow renewal! I especially like that you can download the template and print them yourself!! That will definitely save you money!!

The really sad thing about my wedding is the fact that our photographer was horrible. He didn’t take any pictures of my dad and I walking down the aisle together…apparently he didn’t know we wanted that (I have no idea why he thought that). After seeing the proofs, my husband and I broke our contract with him and as a result, we have zero professional wedding photos. That is something that still upsets me to this day. So for our vow renewal, I plan on wearing a white dress again. Maybe not as fancy (or as expensive) as before, but I want it to look like a wedding dress in pictures. This lace wedding dress is perfect…and my daughter saw it and thought it was pretty. Maybe she’ll wear it one day…

dream vow renewal

Over the years, I have seen some really neat guest book ideas. One wedding I went to, they had you stamp a thumbprint on a canvas with a tree painted on it and write your names. It was super neat! This bucket list guest book is unique and definitely something I have never seen before at a wedding!

Wedding cake toppers are another way for a bride and groom to show their personality a bit. You can go traditional with the bride and groom figurines on top of the cake or you can do what we did and just add a pretty flower arrangement on top. However, I really like this simple cake topper with our initials and a heart. Made out of wood, it’s simple look fits in with the theme I am going with!

dream vow renewal

At our wedding, we made a mixed CD with our favorite music and that was both the wedding favor and the thing that told people where to sit. I’ve often thought about doing a wedding remix CD. Everyone loved the CD idea and we have people telling us they still listen to the CD! So…for my dream vow renewal, I would probably do another CD as the wedding favor. These custom CD sleeves are perfect!
