DIY Coconut Oil Face Wash with Essential Oils

During my teen years, my skin was perfect. I’m not even joking.I could probably count on one hand how many zits I had. That all changed once I started having kids. Since getting pregnant for the first time when I was 22 years old (I’m 33 now), my skin has broken out like crazy. I finally started seeing a dermatologist, but everything she wanted me to do was crazy to me. One of which was take a low dose antibiotic every day. Um…hello…crazy! Can you imagine the horrible yeast infection that would form from that? Sheesh! I respectfully declined. Little did I know, I had a solution sitting in my pantry…coconut oil!

I’ve posted before about my love for essential oils and making better decisions for myself and my family to live a healthier lifestyle. I’ve read a lot about coconut oil and all the billions of uses for it from cooking to swishing with it in your mouth…I haven’t done that yet, I’m kind of scared! One of the things I read was that you could wash your face with coconut oil. So I did and I love it!

Why Does it Work?

Simply put, oil dissolves oil. When you wash your face with coconut oil you are, essentially removing all the gross, dirty oil and replacing it with pure, clean oil. Our skin needs oil.

DIY Coconut Oil Face Wash with Essential Oils Recipe

  • 2/3 cup Organic Cold Pressed Coconut Oil
  • Young Living Lavender Essential Oil (I used 70 drops)

  1. Place the coconut oil and lavender essential oil in a mixing bowl.
  2. Using an electric mixer, mix the two together until you have a nice creamy mixture.
  3. Put the mixture into a small mason jar and secure the lid tightly.

To Use

This part is IMPORTANT!! You only need a little bit…maybe about a teaspoon or less. This is one of those things where less is definitely more! Massage the coconut oil into your face for about 30 seconds or so. Take a wash cloth and using hot water place the wash cloth on your face and then gently wipe off. Be careful not to get the coconut oil in your eyes…just trust me on this one!

You will not need to moisturize your face after. Your skin will feel and look AMAZING! And with the winter months quickly approaching, you will want to jump on this beauty routine. There is nothing worse than having dry, itchy skin in the winter!

You can add whatever essential oil you would like. I chose to go with Young Living Lavender oil because lavender oil is soothing to the skin, helps promote good sleep and it is relaxing to your mind and body. Who wouldn’t want to rub that all over their face at night before bed?!?

**Please note, for some people I’ve read that there could be a transition period. So you could potentially see your face get worse before it gets better. This doesn’t happen with everyone, and it hasn’t happened with me, but it could. Stick it out! I’m sure you will love the results, I know I am!**

Essential Oils for Digestive Concerns

Yesterday my sons football team won their game and secured their spot in the playoffs!! After the game we went out to celebrate with friends and had a great time. However, my stomach didn’t really agree with the place we went. I’m here to tell you firsthand, if the name of the restaurant has the word “Rusty” in it…stay away. Far, far away. Digestive issues are the worst, especially when you are out!

I wish I had the ability to see into the future so I would have known not to eat there. I ate a cheeseburger and fries. My cheeseburger was well done. However, that didn’t matter because within minutes of standing up, I was feeling sick. I ended up throwing up four times that night.

Four times.

All because I ate a cheeseburger at a restaurant with the word “Rusty” in the name.

Thankfully I am an avid user of Young Living Essential Oils and thankfully I had just received my order earlier this week and had ordered Di-Gize!

Young Living’s DiGize Essential Oil is one oil I would make sure you have on hand at all times. I don’t know about you, but when my digestive system is all out of whack, I feel like utter crap. Using DiGize, I had two options, rub directly on my stomach and/or place 5-6 drops in an empty vegetable capsule and take with water.

**Please note, not all essential oils are created equal. This particular Young Living Essential Oil is perfectly safe to take internally…store bought oils are not**

I took one capsule around 9 pm and a second capsule about two hours later. I am very thankful to have Young Living essential oils to help support my normally healthy body!

So next time your spouse says “hey do you want to go to Rusty…?” just say no! Or just make sure you have some DiGize on hand for when you get home!

Homemade Carpet Deodorizer with Young Living Essential Oils

I used to buy those carpet deodorizers that you sprinkle on the floor before vacuuming. Only, the last time I bought one, the smell was so overpoweringly strong that it gave me a massive headache. When I was doing laundry today, I accidentally knocked the box of baking soda off the dryer that my husband uses when he washes his clothes after he smokes a cigar (which I’ll go on record to say…I HATE SMOKING) and I thought to myself “I can make my own homemade carpet deodorizer“!

I’ve written before about my love for essential oils. I use them for everything, why not in a homemade carpet deodorizer recipe?!?

Homemade Carpet Deodorizer

  • Baking Soda
  • Essential Oil of your choice
  • Empty Parmesan cheese container

  1. Wash and completely dry your Parmesan cheese container. Let it air dry over night.
  2. Fill the container with baking soda (my container was a Sams Club size container so I needed two boxes of baking soda).
  3. Add the essential oil of your choosing. I went with Young Living Peppermint oil because spiders don’t like peppermint. I put 12 drops per cup of baking soda.

My family room smells so good!! And…I’ve gotten quite a bit done today! Peppermint oil helps to increase brain function. That’s why they are always saying that students should suck on a peppermint candy when they are taking a test! So not only am I making my family room a minefield for spiders, but I am boosting my brain too!

Which oil would you have used?

Thieves Cleaner by Young Living, Perfect for Your Home!

The one thing that makes me cringe is when my kids bring home that dreaded note stating that someone in your child’s class has some sort of illness or lice. Holy cow I would flip out and itch all night long when the lice note comes home. By the time I went to bed, I would be convinced that I had a lice infestation in my house. Which I’ve never had, thankfully and *knock on wood! I know I probably sound like a germaphobe…I promise you, I’m not bad like Howie Mandel, but as soon as I get those notes or start to see the kids my children are friends with, starting to get sick, I start wiping down EVERYTHING in my house with Thieves cleaner. I wipe down everything we touch…doorknobs, light switches, bathroom sink handles, cabinet doors, the fridge…I wipe it all. I will do this after they leave for school and then again before I go to bed. It doesn’t take that long, but I think that little bit does help to keep us healthier during the fall and winter months.

I used to use bleach, but now Young Living’s Thieves Cleaner is my cleaner of choice. I have been switching everything in my house to a more natural way of doing things and less chemicals. So the Thieves Cleaner makes sense! Not only does my house smell so good after I use it, but I know that I am disinfecting my house properly and using something that is safe and natural for my family and that’s important to me! To tell you how awesome this stuff is…my children spilled maple syrup on the kitchen table. Now you know that when you have maple syrup on the table, it’s like superglue and the only way to get it off is to scrape, scrape scrape. But not anymore! With the Thieves Household Cleaner, you can spray it on and begin wiping after spraying down the whole table!

If you would like to order the household cleaner, I urge you to consider becoming a wholesale distributor. Not only does Young Living give you an amazing wholesale discount, but you are NOT required to sell the oils if you don’t want to (though, I will say, they do sell themselves!). For more information on the Young Living Thieves Household Cleaner or how you can become a distributor, please feel free to contact me or visit this link right HERE!

How to Find Relief for Your Headache Naturally

Headaches are the worst. When your head hurts, then your jaw ends up hurting, your ears hurt, neck hurts…basically anything from the neck up, hurts. Or you could be like me and end up with your entire body hurting…just because you have a headache. No fun at all. A few years ago, I had to start seeing a neurologist because my migraines were getting out of control. I felt like I was spending more time in dark rooms under the covers than I was spending time with my family.

I learned something interesting from the neurologist. She told me to limit how much pain medication (Tylenol, Motrin, Excedrin, etc) that I take because when you take something like that, you almost always have a rebound affect and end up with your headache or migraine ten times worse than before. Which made a lot of sense to me because I pretty much always ended up in a vicious cycle of getting a migraine, taking something to take it away and then getting it back again a day or two later. The only thing that broke that cycle was when I was out and couldn’t take something and ended up having to suffer through the pain.

Using essential oils is something I have turned to and have been using for about 6 months now for just about every aspect of my life. Since doing that, I have not had a single migraine! There is one essential oil blend that Young Living offers that is great for people that get headaches. Each oil within this blend does a little something to help with the potential causes of your headache.

M-Grain essential oil by Young Living is great. I haven’t used this blend, but I’ve used more than half the oils that are in the blend. However, I have two customers that are using M-Grain and they both report that the oil appears to help with their headache symptoms. Wouldn’t you like to try and receive the same help for your headaches?!?

If essential oils are not something you are willing to try, then you may also want to check into Curamin®. That herbal supplement is another one that I’ve had a lot of good luck with.

For more information on this oil to help your headache or any of the other oils Young Living has to offer, please feel free to contact me! I’d love to help!
