Making a Milestone Birthday Special

It’s always fun to celebrate a milestone birthday. I know we had a huge party when my kids turned one and we will probably do the same on other special birthdays like when they turn 16 and/or 18. This year (February 26th, to be exact!), my husband turned 40! We have had a lot of stuff going on the last few months, so planning a bit surprise party or party of any kind, just wasn’t in the cards, timing wise. However, I still wanted to make this milestone birthday a special one. After a lot of reading online and planning, I came up with a really fun and special birthday for my husband.

Celebrating a Milestone Birthday Idea

I love quotes. If I could walk around and speak in various quotes for most of the day, I would. I’m not kidding! I’ve always been like this. So when I was planning what I wanted to do, I knew I wanted it to have something to do with quotes about getting older (be sure to check below. I listed all the quotes I used).

Do yourself a favor and pick up this inexpensive quote book on Amazon. You will be able to thumb through it quickly and get whatever quotes you need!

1001 Smartest Things Ever Said1001 Smartest Things Ever Said

The second thing I wanted to do was figure out a way to make his birthday celebration last the entire day. I didn’t want to just give him some presents, have the kids eat cake and call it a day. This was a special birthday, so I wanted the whole day to be special for him. So instead, I got him enough presents to give him one present every hour we are awake at 40 minutes after each hour. So his first present was at 12:40 am and his last present was at 11:40 pm!

Quotes I Used

Like I said before, I love quotes. Here are the quotes I used and the present I bought to go along with each quote:

  • “It’s better to carry a tune than a grudge” ~ Modern Family
    • Kid Rock concert tickets
  • “At 40 you are not old, you are classic” ~anonymous
  • “Age is not important, unless you are a cheese” ~Helen Hayes
  • “Life is not always a matter of holding good cards, but sometimes, playing a poor hand well” ~Jack London
    • Card game
  • “The first 40 years are just practice. Now it starts for real” ~anonymous
    • Red Bull Total Zero
  • “Don’t take life too seriously, it’s not permanent” ~unknown
  • “Happy 11th anniversary of your 29th Birthday (steel anniversary)” ~unknown
  • “Life is too short. Smile while you still have teeth” ~unknown
    • Toothpaste
  • “At 40, I realize that I was built for comfort, not speed” ~unknown
    • Socks
  • “You are only young once, but you can be immature for a lifetime” ~John P. Grier
  • “Everyone is the age of their heart” ~Guatemalan Proverb
    • Heart Smart Peanuts

    • Suduko and Logic Puzzle books

    • To Do List pads

  • “Youthfulness is about how you live, not when you were born” ~Karl Lagerfield

Each gift was wrapped in either red paper (what I had) or in a gift bag. I used my Tag Makermilestone birthday to make tags for each gift. One side of the tag had the time he was supposed to open the gift and the other side had the quote. He saved every tag. That made me very happy! The night before his birthday, we lined all the presents up against the couch.

This was so fun to put together! He had fun getting a present every hour. The kids made sure that he opened it right on time and if we happen to be out at one of their many games (lacrosse, soccer and basketball) this weekend, then they made sure he opened what he needed to when we all got back home.

This idea is perfect for any milestone birthday! Use the quotes above or find your own, but the general idea can be geared towards any age. I may do this again for my kids for their big milestone birthday…18! I went ahead and linked a lot of the products I picked up on Amazon for you. A lot of them, like the Yeti cup, for example, are cheaper than what you can get at the store! Plus, I don’t know about you, but I like things to be simple and there is nothing easier than having everything arrive in a box from Amazon!!

Personalized Easter Baskets

Easter is coming up in mid-April. It’s not too soon (or late…depending on how you look at it) to start thinking about those Easter baskets. Some people prefer to pick up pre-made Easter baskets every year. I’ve never done that, though I say I’m going to every year! And I know my kids would love it. My daughter has asked many times why the Easter Bunny never brings them the store bought Easter Baskets! If pre-made Easter baskets aren’t your thing, there are many adorable, matching and personalized Easter baskets you can pick up and fill yourself!

Here are my kids matching, but not personalized Easter baskets:

They are super cute and I really do love them, but after using them for the last 10 and 12 years, they are starting to look a bit scratched and banged up. As careful as I try to be with them, they get banged around and dented. So I am scouring Etsy for adorable, matching and personalized Easter baskets!

Personalized Easter Baskets

This burlap basket is my absolute favorite (and probably one I will be ordering)! It’s the perfect size, personalized and really goes with the theme of our house. You are able to choose what color bunny you want, as well as what color you want your child’s name to be.

If you are looking for a basket similar to what my kids have, then this personalized metal bucket is something you should take a look at! I absolutely love the simplicity of it. Like the previous basket, you have several options of colors for the personalization.

You may already have a basket that you like. If that’s the case, then this adorable basket liner may be the best option for you (baskets are also available…so you have that option too)! Like every other option I’ve showed you, with this one you are able to choose both the fabric color AND whether you want eggs with the name or not.

Finally, if you already have matching (or not matching) baskets that you like, but you want to add a little personal touch to them, you can pick up these adorable and very inexpensive wooden tags and attach it to any basket you already have! Super cute, right?!?

While we are on the topic of Easter baskets, what are your favorite things to fill the baskets with? Leave me a comment below. I’m always looking for new ideas!

Valentine’s Day Gifts for Her!

Shopping for a significant other for Valentine’s Day or other holidays can be pretty stressful. I don’t know about you, but I always want to make sure I get the perfect gift for that person. My husband is the same way. He is always saying how hard I am to shop for…mainly because I really don’t want anything. With his work schedule keeping him from home a lot, the main thing I ever want is time…more time with him (awww…I know. How sweet!). To help him and you guys out, I have put together a list of great Valentine’s Day gifts you can pick up for that special lady in your life. Most can be to you in two days with Amazon Prime! Bonus!

Valentine’s Day Gifts for Her!

If your significant other likes to read, then the best gift you could ever get her is a Kindle. They are affordable and come in a few different options. I personally have the Kindle PaperwhiteValentine's day gifts. I love it. It stays charged for weeks and I use it for a few hours every single day!

Kindle also has the Kindle VoyageValentine's day gifts that is supposed to stay charged even longer than the Paperwhite! Pretty cool! If you get a Kindle, you need to sign up for Kindle Unlimited. It is, by far, the best thing I’ve ever signed up for. It’s well worth the monthly charge.

If you are more of a traditionalist and want to get your loved one jewelry for Valentine’s Day, then these diamond stud earrings with screw backs (a must…trust me…a must) are beautiful and a great deal! My husband got me a pair two Christmas’s ago and they are my most favorite piece of jewelry, besides my wedding rings!

Chocolate! Valentine’s Day gifts have to include chocolate! Whether you get Chocolate Dipped Oreo CookiesValentine's Day gifts or a box of chocolates, your significant other will absolutely love it! If you really want to wow her on Valentine’s Day, then you need to get her this 2′ x 3′ box of chocolates!!

If you’re still stumped on what to get, then think about her favorite stores. Gift cards are always a favorite gift of mine! I don’t like to spend money on myself, but if I have a gift card, that’s a different story!

What gift idea would you add to this list?

Valentine’s Day Crafts Round-Up

Valentine’s Day is coming up and I don’t know about your family, but ours love that holiday! My daughter gets excited about the Valentine’s she gets to hand out to her classmates. My son is in middle school, so like most middle school kids, I’m sure he will want to get something for a girl, even if they are just friends. I think it’s pretty sweet. Besides writing out Valentine’s, my daughter also enjoys making Valentine’s Day crafts. So in honor of my daughter, I put together this round-up of Valentine’s Day crafts that are easy and fun!

valentine's day crafts

Each of these crafts are very different and have varying degrees of difficulty. However, with that said, I am pretty sure my daughter (10 years old) could make each and every one of these crafts!

Valentine’s Day Crafts Round-Up

The first craft I decided to share with you is really clever. It’s a Love Potion necklace from Momdot! If you haven’t been to Momdot before, then you need to stop what you are doing and head over there to check out how to make this adorable Love Potion necklace and check out some of the other crafts and recipes. They are great!

This Valentine’s Day Rag Wreath is something my daughter would love to make! Not only would this look cute on the front door, but you could make one for different seasons and holidays by using different fabrics. Head on over to Third Stop on the Right for the directions on how to make this super cute Valentine’s Day craft!

This next craft is another one that my daughter would enjoy making and hanging all over our house! She loves anything and everything that has to do with making things out of paper. So 3D Paper Hearts are right up her ally (and I’m sure your kids…or even you, would enjoy making them too)! You can find the directions for this craft at Suburbia Unwrapped!

valentine's day crafts

These bird seed hearts are my favorite Valentine’s Day crafts! We have a big tree in our backyard and I’d love to make some of these and hang them in the tree! I’m sure the many birds that are always in my yard tormenting my cat, would appreciate it! You can find the directions at Thrifty Jinxy.

Valentine's day crafts

This is an absolutely adorable craft to do with your kids. Have them each get their own coffee mug and have them decorate it for dad, grandma or whomever they would like to make this Valentine’s Day craft for! You can find the directions for this craft at A Grande Life!

This last craft is absolutely adorable! It would be a perfect craft to make to add to your table, a shelf, your mantle or anywhere you would like it! You can find the directions at Simply Being Mommy!

So…what do you think of these Valentine’s Day crafts? They are all easy enough to do and super cute! Which one will you be making first?

Bottle Flipping Craze with Flippin’ Awesome

Are your kids flipping bottles and pretty much everything they get in their hands like mine are? My son is OBSESSED with bottle flipping. I will say, it does drive me completely nuts. Mainly because he does it at times that are not really a good time. For instance, we will be running late in the morning and my son will have a few minutes before he has to walk out the door for the bus. I will ask him to bring me his bottle of medicine. What does he do? He grabs it and starts flipping it and won’t hand it over until he has flipped it at least three times. That drives me crazy! If your kids are into this bottle flipping craze as much as mine are, then you will want to get the book, Flippin’ Awesome by Sarah Doughty!

I received a copy of this book for the purpose of this post. All opinions are 100% my own.

About the Bottle Flipping Craze

If you haven’t heard of the bottle flipping craze that has and still is sweeping the nation, then you’ve been living under a rock! It started in 2016 with people posting videos of them flipping full or partially full bottles of water on the internet. As you can imagine, middle school kids and really any age kid, across the nation began attempting the to flip anything they got their hands on. And I do have to admit, while it is pretty annoying to here bottles hitting the ground repeatedly, over and over and over again, it is rather addicting. Especially when I want to show up my kids!

With the Flippin’ Awesomebottle flipping book, your children will master new tricks and flips to wow their friends! This book is filled with twelve target games for great head-to-head competition and fun! Your children (or you!) will learn new tricks and techniques that are sure to wow your friends! You get:

  • Winning techniques for landing each and every flip
  • 12 ready to play, fold out target games
  • Tear away score cards to track your stats and your wins

Doesn’t this sound like something your kids will like?
