Homemade Carpet Deodorizer with Young Living Essential Oils

I used to buy those carpet deodorizers that you sprinkle on the floor before vacuuming. Only, the last time I bought one, the smell was so overpoweringly strong that it gave me a massive headache. When I was doing laundry today, I accidentally knocked the box of baking soda off the dryer that my husband uses when he washes his clothes after he smokes a cigar (which I’ll go on record to say…I HATE SMOKING) and I thought to myself “I can make my own homemade carpet deodorizer“!

I’ve written before about my love for essential oils. I use them for everything, why not in a homemade carpet deodorizer recipe?!?

Homemade Carpet Deodorizer

Ingredients

  • Baking Soda
  • Essential Oil of your choice
  • Empty Parmesan cheese container

Directions

  1. Wash and completely dry your Parmesan cheese container. Let it air dry over night.
  2. Fill the container with baking soda (my container was a Sams Club size container so I needed two boxes of baking soda).
  3. Add the essential oil of your choosing. I went with Young Living Peppermint oil because spiders don’t like peppermint. I put 12 drops per cup of baking soda.

My family room smells so good!! And…I’ve gotten quite a bit done today! Peppermint oil helps to increase brain function. That’s why they are always saying that students should suck on a peppermint candy when they are taking a test! So not only am I making my family room a minefield for spiders, but I am boosting my brain too!

Thieves Cleaner by Young Living, Perfect for Your Home!

The one thing that makes me cringe is when my kids bring home that dreaded note stating that someone in your child’s class has some sort of illness or lice. Holy cow I would flip out and itch all night long when the lice note comes home. By the time I went to bed, I would be convinced that I had a lice infestation in my house. Which I’ve never had, thankfully and *knock on wood! I know I probably sound like a germaphobe…I promise you, I’m not bad like Howie Mandel, but as soon as I get those notes or start to see the kids my children are friends with, starting to get sick, I start wiping down EVERYTHING in my house with Thieves cleaner. I wipe down everything we touch…doorknobs, light switches, bathroom sink handles, cabinet doors, the fridge…I wipe it all. I will do this after they leave for school and then again before I go to bed. It doesn’t take that long, but I think that little bit does help to keep us healthier during the fall and winter months.

I used to use bleach, but now Young Living’s Thieves Cleaner is my cleaner of choice. I have been switching everything in my house to a more natural way of doing things and less chemicals. So the Thieves Cleaner makes sense! Not only does my house smell so good after I use it, but I know that I am disinfecting my house properly and using something that is safe and natural for my family and that’s important to me! To tell you how awesome this stuff is…my children spilled maple syrup on the kitchen table. Now you know that when you have maple syrup on the table, it’s like superglue and the only way to get it off is to scrape, scrape scrape. But not anymore! With the Thieves Household Cleaner, you can spray it on and begin wiping after spraying down the whole table!

If you would like to order the household cleaner, I urge you to consider becoming a wholesale distributor. Not only does Young Living give you an amazing wholesale discount, but you are NOT required to sell the oils if you don’t want to (though, I will say, they do sell themselves!). For more information on the Young Living Thieves Household Cleaner or how you can become a distributor, please feel free to contact me or visit this link right HERE!

Essential Oils for the Back to School Season

The Back to School time is right around the corner. My kids are ready to go back and believe me, I’m ready too! Enough with the bickering! But what I’m not ready for is all the crud that will be coming into our house once school starts. I hate to see my kids get sick, but usually, if I’m being completely honest, it’s not them that get sick…oh no, it’s me! They bring all those yucky germs home and they dump them on me. And then, when I should be enjoying the peace and quiet or getting some work done, I’m in bed sleeping off some nasty bug they gave me. Thanks kids!

Since the end of March, I have been using essential oils with my family. I’ve had the oils help a bunch of things for us and I have been the healthiest I’ve ever been. So, as you can imagine, I am stocking up on the oils that I want to make sure I have for the start of the back to school season.

Back to School Oils

  • Lavender
  • Thieves
  • Frankincense
  • Joy
  • Peppermint
  • Valor
  • Peace and Calming
  • Stress away
  • Lemon
  • Purification
  • PanAway

How will these oils help the back to school time??? Let me tell you how I use these oils!

  • Lavender: I use this on my daughter before school. I also put a drop on both kids big toes or behind their ears to help them wind down at night.
  • Thieves: Everyone should have Thieves oil! No really…everyone should! I diffuse this oil whenever anyone is not feeling well. I disinfect counters, backs of chairs, doorknobs…basically anything the kids touch. I also rub it on their chest or behind their ears to help boost their immune system.
  • Frankincense: I don’t know about your kids, but mine are very active so they come home with lots of cuts…I rub a little of this oil on their cuts to make them feel better. This is also really good for boosting their immune system…just rub a drop on their big toe!
  • Joy: This one of my favorite oils for helping to ease those first day of school jitters. It smells good and all you need to do is rub a drop on their chest and they are good to go!
  • Peppermint: I use this oil a lot when the kids need help restoring digestive upset. This also works well to support their respiratory health.
  • Valor: This is an oil that I really like to use with my son. It helps calm him, keep him focused and give him courage to be confident.
  • Peace & Calming: I put this oil in the diffuser while the kids are working on their homework. I also, sometimes, use this at night to help my son wind down. He tends to have a hard time shutting his mind off at night.
  • Stress Away: This one is for me! With two kids, homework, sports and their father who travels for work, I bathe in this stuff! Seriously!
  • Lemon: Lemon is great to put in water (glass container only). This also make a great air freshener. So diffuse away!
  • Purification: I don’t know about your kids, but mine have stinky feet…purification, on a cotton ball, is great for deodorizing stinky shoes! We also use this for bug bites and stings.
  • PanAway: I use this for me. It’s great for head pain, muscle aches and my sore wrist.

They sound great, don’t they?!? If someone would have told me six months ago that I would be this into natural remedies, I would have told them they were crazy, but I honestly can’t imagine life any other way! You can purchase all of these oils separately, but I wouldn’t do that! I made the choice to sign up as a wholesale member and  purchase the premium kit that Young Living offers. That kit comes with all of the oils listed above, a diffuser and sample packets of a few other items. This is definitely the route to go. And, as a wholesale member, you can sell the oils if you want, but all you really need to do is spend $50 a year and take advantage of the wonderful wholesale prices and reduced shipping!

Why I like Joy Essential Oil!

A few weeks ago I told you about one of my favorite Young Living Essential Oils, Stress Away. I use this oil every single day. In fact, I keep it in my purse so I always have it with me. I hate having to deal with occasional nervous tension. Seriously speaking, I hate my occasional nervous tenstion MORE than I hate the fact that I am overweight. If you’ve ever dealt with occasional nervous tension, you know that it consumes you to the point that you are not able to do anything.

Sleep is a HUGE trigger for me. If I have something going on the next day, but I can’t go to sleep, I will sit there willing myself to sleep and my mind will be going a mile a minute. The more I think about how badly I need to get to sleep, the more anxious I get. The other night was no exception. I decided to diffuse a little Joy and rub a drop or two over my heart before bed. What happened next, I was not expecting at all…but it was a nice surprise!

After rubbing the oil on, I did a few more things and then headed up to bed. Most nights I lay in bed playing a casino game on my iphone before I fall asleep. Not that night. I quickly fell asleep and I stayed asleep all night. You know why? Joy essential oil, when diffused, can be refreshing and uplifting. I don’t know about you, but when I feel refreshed or have an uplifting feeling, I am relaxed and when I am relaxed, I fall asleep! I repeated the Joy over my heart for the next three nights and the same thing…woke up feeling refreshed!

Finally! I can get to sleep without over analyzing everything at 2 am!

If you would like to purchase this oil, you can do so by visiting this LINK. You can sign up as a retail customer or a wholesale distributor (what I recommend…bigger bang for your buck!). Ask me for more details or visit this post to read more about it.

Disclaimer…I am NOT a doctor. I am just a Young Living Wholesale Distributor that is very passionate about essential oils and very excited to share this passion with everyone. While Joy works for me to help my anxiety and sleep issues, it may not work 100% of the time for you…it may also take a few applications to work. I am not responsible if it doesn’t work.

How to Make Spider Spray with Essential Oils

Spring is finally here! I know…it doesn’t matter where you live, everyone is happy that winter is over! While it’s nice to see a sunny sky or green grass, one thing I really don’t like about this time of year is all the spiders. Being that our family room, the room we spend the most time in, is on a cement slab, we always seem to have the random spider run across the floor. The worst is when I’m sitting there watching T.V. and all of a sudden there’s a spider dangling from the ceiling in front of my face. It takes everything in me to not throw my laptop when that happens! I needed a spider spray!

I’ve done a lot of research about the different spider sprays out there, but none are really all that safe with kids or pets. We could build a bat house in the backyard, but that freaks me out more than the spiders, I think.

Since I am just getting into using essential oils for everything, I started to research whether there was a particular scent that spiders hate that is safe for kids and pets. I combined a few and came up with my own spray. I have to say…my house smelled nice after!

Homemade Spider Spray

 Ingredients

  • Peppermint Essential Oil
  • Dish Soap
  • White Vinegar
  • Water
  • Spray bottle

Best Peppermint Oil (Large 4 Ounce) 100% Pure Peppermint Essential Oil (Mentha Piperita)Best Peppermint Oil (Large 4 Ounce) 100% Pure Peppermint Essential Oil (Mentha Piperita)Empty Amber Glass Spray Bottles with Labels (2 Pack) - 16oz Refillable Container for Essential Oils, Cleaning Products, or Aromatherapy - Durable Black Trigger Sprayer w/ Mist and Stream SettingsEmpty Amber Glass Spray Bottles with Labels (2 Pack) – 16oz Refillable Container for Essential Oils, Cleaning Products, or Aromatherapy – Durable Black Trigger Sprayer w/ Mist and Stream Settings

Directions

  1. Fill a spray bottle (mine is 12-16 oz) with warm water, almost full.
  2. Put 5 drops of peppermint essential oil in the bottle.
  3. Add a squirt of dish soap and a dash of white vinegar.
  4. Put the sprayer on, shake it up and spray away!

I like the spray bottles sold on Amazon (below). I make sure to label the different bottles and I have them all over my house. Some are used for spider spray; some are used for the bathroom; some are used for everyday cleaner for the kitchen, etc. The dish soap is important because it allows the oil to mix more evenly. I made sure to spray around the entire perimeter of my family room and first floor. I paid close attention to the area around doors and windows. You’ll want to do this once a week or once every other week.

Why Does This Work?

This spider spray works because in all of my research, I read that spiders do not like the smell/taste of vinegar, peppermint or citrus. I decided to give peppermint a whirl. I figured it smelled nice, spiders hate it and peppermint oil enhances mental alertness…BONUS for me!
