Director Peter Jackson should be absolutely ashamed of his latest project, The Lovely Bones. He absolutely ruined an excellent story written by Alice Sebold. First and foremost, the movie starts out unbelievably slow and boring. For people who did not read the book beforehand, I could truly see them confused as hell with what is going on in the movie. It jumps around from one scene to another and the editing is an absolute mess. Half the time the scenes don’t match up. For instances, at the end of the movie, the mother is shown with short hair. In the very next scene her hair is long, but…you guessed it, in the very next scene, her hair is short again. Like I said, editing was a mess.
My husband and I don’t get out to the movies very often and it sure makes me angry to have wasted $19 on tickets for such a let down of a movie. It’s movies like this one that make me wish they would not try and adapt books to the big screen. And maybe it’s not solely Peter Jackson’s fault. Maybe the author, Alice Sebold didn’t have enough say in the script, which shame on her if that is true. I would never allow a book I have written and published, to become such a mess of a movie.
I really hope they don’t make a movie from the book The Shack. That is my absolute most favorite book and I would hate to see it ruined with a shitty script and amateurish editing.
So if you haven’t seen The Lovely Bones, don’t waste your money. It’s not even worth renting on DVD. Hell, it’s not even worth watching if you were given the movie and offered $10 to watch it. It’s that bad people.

Thanks for the run down. I hadn't like the previews either

So I'm guessing you didn't like the movie? LOL.
This is why I rarely see a movie in the theater. I hate spending $$ for something that is usually a letdown. And I always love the books more than the movies.

I've heard that about this movie as well. I'm sorry it was so disappointing 🙁

I did enjoy the book…well maybe enjoy is a poor choice of a word…it was disturbing but good. Very disturbing.
Guess I won't be seeing the movie 🙂

These two books are on my "must read" list. I'm always reading something…off to Amazon. And I won't watch the movie before…if at all. 🙂

Darn I was looking forward to that one!

aww you only spent 19$ on a movie? i usually have to put out about 50$. Where the hell do you live?!
But on the movie thing, I've never seen it nor read it. Don't wanna to be honest. It looks boring. But I would like to know why he killed the girl.

thanks for the heads up. I hate it when that happens

Hmmm.. you did not like it, right? LOL 😉 I will wait for it on DVD then!

We spent $19 on the tickets, and then another $15 on two pops and a popcorn.
He killed the girl (this isn't a spoiler so don't worry for those of you that have not read or seen it yet) because that is just what he does. He's a serial killer (I guess thats what you would vall him.

Movies are so expensive now, it stinks when we waste money on a dud, esp when we were hoping it would be good and Peter Jackson can do good. He can do Amazing if he tries

Visiting from BPOTW. I actually didn't hate this movie. I loved the book, but read it so long ago, I couldn't remember the details. I didn't notice the editing issues. But I do hate it when I waste money on the movies.

Sorry you hated the movie. That's always so frustrating – you feel you wasted your time and your money. And if you persuaded someone else to come along you feel embarrassed as well! Hope your net cinematic experience is better!

I wanted to see this, but now I won't! Thanks for saving us the money!

$19! That's crazy. Thanks for the heads up. I hate wasting money at the movies. I've gotten very picky lately.

I have yet to see a movie adaptation that is better than the original book. Seriously, nothing compares to a good book. Except maybe seeing Jacob on screen in Eclipse, but I digress.
I haven't read The Lovely Bones because I don't know if I can take the subject matter. I've found since having kids that type of plot hits too close to home, you know?

I never watch movies, yet here I am discovering your blog for the first time, when last night I started watching Lovely Bones 🙂 Surprised to find it was a movie based on the book, as it didn't seem familiar at all, though it is many years since I read the book….
