When I was pregnant with my son, my husband used to laugh so hard at me because of all the scattered brain things I was doing. I would put dinner in the crockpot and leave for student teaching, only to come home to find that I forgot to actually plug the crockpot in. The best was when I was sending out bills, actually wrote out the checks, and then forgot to put the checks in the envelopes. BUT…I mailed the envelopes out anyway. Did that one twice during that pregnancy. Needless to say, I stopped paying the bills after that. Dan took that over.
So after I had my daughter I thought “surely those brain cells will return since I’m not pregnant anymore”. Oh no. It only got worse. I have the WORST time remembering things. Probably because I have so much going on between my daughters preschool where I am on the board, my son’s kindergarten class where I like to volunteer in the class, my Creative Memories business, and all the other things I have to do just being a mom and a wife. Phew after typing all that, it HAS to be because I am over scheduled!
Anyway, when my husband said he wanted to buy me a blackberry for my birthday last year, I was a little hesitant. Did I really need that? But I went ahead and told him sure. And you know what? It was the BEST present I have ever gotten! I use that phone for EVERYTHING. I keep up to date with my emails. And I especially like it when I am able to be in contact with my son’s teacher throughout the day. I have all of my appointments, kids pick up and drop off times in the calendar and it alerts me when a scheduled event comes up. I truly think every mom needs a Blackberry or some sort of “smart phone”.
My other favorite thing about having my Blackberry is using googletalk. I keep in touch with my sister in-laws so much more than we used to talk and it is so nice to just IM them throughout the day or week and see how they are doing. Sure I could send and email or call, but they are busy just like I am so a quick little IM back and forth is fun!
Verizon and JuiceBoxJungle sponsored me to write this post, and they asked me to talk about the ways my smart phone affects my life as a parent.

Funny – I am one of those that thinks having a smart phone is over kill. We only have a prepaid one for emergencies, and it's a dinosaur as far as cell phones are concerned.
Understandably if that's what it takes to get organized, then I think it's great, but it's nothing paper and pencil won't solve for me!

I am definitely not that tech/gadget-savvy. I still have very, very (I mean it!) Nokia and all it does is actually ringing. LOL Your post inspired me to try something new…

My blackberry is a priceless little gadget that's permanently attached to my hand at all times. Never tried the google talk though, going to have to try that out~

Blackberry's are awesome. I had one until it got smashed in my car accident earlier this winter but ultimately switched to the iPhone.
