This week, a friend of mine got massively rear ended by an 86 year old man. She was STOPPED at a light and he nailed her going at least 45mph. Apparently, the front end of his car was totally demolished, his airbags went off, and parts of his car were sticking out of her bumper. Oh and her kids were in the car.
This is a classic example of why old people need to take yearly (or even every 6 months) road tests to make sure they are OK to drive. Especially the people who are shrinking. How scary it is to drive up next to someone, look over, and see that they can barely see over the steering wheel.
Today I’m driving and the speed limit is 45. The car in front of me is BARELY going 20mph. I get over to go around the car, look over, and of course it’s an old woman. But she wasn’t just old…she could barely see over the steering wheel. Seriously lady. I don’t know if it was the fact that she was old or the fact that she may be old AND have brittle bones and just isn’t able to push the gas pedal down harder…but stay off the road! Or at least just be in the passenger seat of a car that is going the normal speed limit.
I’m thinking if you are old enough to be getting social security, you should be getting road tests done yearly (or every 6 months).

We think alike. Old people should NOT DRIVE. My husband just thinks I have a low tolerance and my thoughts will change when I'm old…however, I doubt it. I'll be handing over my license and talking the bus. Yes I will!
