We signed Zachary up with summer school. We wanted to make sure he continued to catch up to where his peers were at at the end of Kindergarten, as well as maintain what he learned over the summer. One of Zachary’s difficulties is writing. He pretty much wrote everything upside down and backwards at the end of the year. He could be dyslexic…I don’t know. I’m told they don’t generally test for that until the 3rd grade. I plan on questioning it more in September when he starts 1st grade (gosh I can’t believe he’s in 1st grade already).
So anyway, we signed him up. He got a teacher I was less than thrilled about him having so I called and requested him to be switched to a different class. They moved him to the elementary school I went to as a kid (which I can’t get over how different the school looks) and he had a male teacher! I think male teachers for children like Zachary is awesome at this age.
I kept saying at the end of the school year that all Zachary needed was to get over a slight hump and he would be reading and writing better. He FINALLY is starting to write correctly!! Normally he would start at the bottom of the line and work up to make his letters. Now he is starting at the top and doing the letters correctly (well 90% of the time)!
I am so proud of him!! He worked very hard and it shows!!
