And it’s 86 degrees and rising outside. I am currently writing from a blow up pool, in my living room, filled with ice…with a fan blowing directly on my face. The only thing that would make this a tad OK would be a hot cabana boy bringing me strawberry daiquiris and feeding me grapes. But…since I’m diabetic, I would totally settle for a hot cabana boy, shirtless…cleaning my house.

So what happened to our air conditioner? I really don’t know. Though, being quick to Google everything…I’m pretty sure it’s the compressor…a.k.a. an $800+ fix. One thing I can tell you…I’m kicking myself (OK really my husband because this is totally his domain) that we did not renew our home protection plan. With a home warranty, like the ones through American Home Shield, a lot of the repairs and replacement of common (not all) home items are covered. And after really looking through their site (and forwarding it to my husband before something else goes wrong…) I like the fact that their contractors are all local, licensed, and insured.
One of the things my husband is freaking out about is our 30+ year old furnace. Will we be able to find an a/c unit that is compatible with the current furnace or will we have to replace that as well? If we have to replace that furnace, I don’t know what we’ll do. Maybe I’ll add a Paypal “donate to my furnace fund” button on my sidebar (just kidding…well…). One thing I do know, I will be looking into a home warranty plan. You never know when things are going to up and break. My kids Tae Kwon Do teacher has his fridge stop working…that same weekend the oven stopped heating. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the microwave went too.
Do you have a home warranty plan on your house?
Shannon says
Yes, I currently have a policy that I got with the new house. But once up I will go back on the plan thru dte. In the past this saved me, my furnace quite working in the middle of winter, and help pay for a new dryer when my old one stopped working. My husband researched the cost of the furnace part's and we saved big time with having the plan.

I live in Miami. We bought our house in 2009 and scrimped and saved for a LONG time to save up for a new AC unit. I totally feel your pain!!
TheSuburbanMom says
Oh no!!!! Home repairs are the worst, but an AC takes the cake! Hope you get cooler!

OH my gosh I feel for you How aweful we unfortunately don't have central air and cram our self's in a little room to keep cool. I hope you can get it fixed soon or atleast pick yourself up a window unit until things are solved.
It's way tooo hot

It's hot here too. Good luck figuring things out. A good trick is putting a bucket of ice in front of your fan – try it, it works!

Ours went out last summer and I was pregnant. Thankfully, it was fixed it a week, but we still need a new unit. We are trying to save up the cash for it.. and a long list of other things!

Ugh, I'm so sorry! It's so HOT today too 🙁
We didn't renew our Home Warranty, and as soon as that happened our toilet broke, dishwasher broke, and our furnace broke too, ugh…
