One of the things I always try to make sure I have on hand at home is string cheese. Finding out that I am diabetic forced me to change my habits dramatically. Obviously I had to cut a lot of sweets from my diet, but one of the things I had to do was plan my snacks better. Before my diagnosis, I would snack on grapes or other fruit, but being that fruit (grapes especially) are loaded with sugar and carbs, I had to change when I actually eat fruit (usually with a meal and always with protein).

But, the nice thing about string cheese is that it is very low in carbs so grabbing a Sargento Cheese Stick is a great alternative. I especially like their new Fridge Packs. Normally I buy string cheese in the bag and shove it in the meat drawer in my fridge…only problem with that is that the package gets torn and I end up throwing it away…also throwing away the expiration date. I am very WEIRD about my food. I always have to know the expiration date and I sometimes find myself checking items before I eat/use them to make sure they aren’t expired. With the Sargento Cheese Fridge Packs, they sit on one of the the shelves in my fridge, right out in the open and not only is it quick and easy to grab a cheese stick, but I also always know when they expire as well!
Thanks to Mom Central and Sargento, I was sent the String Cheese, Mild Cheddar, and Colby-Jack and I have to say…I don’t have a favorite. I loved them all equally. My husband asked me why I opened up every single one and my answer was “well…what if I want a string cheese in the morning, a mild cheddar at lunch, and a colby-jack before bed?”. And that’s what I do…I pick different flavors each time! And if you look at how I strategically placed the Fridge Packs, no matter what I open the fridge for, the cheese is right there for me to grab!
My only suggestion to Sargento…come out with a jalapeno cheese flavor in the fridge packs…then my kids won’t eat all my cheese! 😉
