It’s been pretty crazy busy around my house…I’ve been going on job interviews and it’s the second week of school. So last night I decided to get caught up on my DVR. I am a reality T.V. show junkie and one of my favorites is Project Runway. My husband even likes it (though he may say otherwise in order to save face). To recap, this week’s show did not involve their regular (read: perfect) models. They were to design for the wive’s and girlfriend’s of random men. The designers were allowed to randomly choose their male. At this point they did not know they would still be making women’s wear. They thought there were designing for the men. They were less than thrilled…especially given the size of some of the men. But the designers soon found out that they were actually designing for the women and they were OK with that…sort of.
Now Project Runway made it easy for them and gave them the women’s measurements…who knows what the husbands/boyfriend’s would have said, right?!? But do you think the designers were appreciative? Most weren’t. Comment after comment was made about how “large” these people were and how “fat is OK so long as I’m not making clothes for it” (that was said by my least favorite designer now, Oliver Green). That was completely uncalled for and if Project Runway was smart, they would have edited that comment out…unless their plan was to have most of America hate Oliver Green…cause if that was it, they succeeded. Oliver went on to further humiliate himself by questioning anyone and everyone at Mood what double D meant. I was dying laughing! He had that deer in headlights look on his face as he innocently questioned everyone. Tim Gunn said it best when he told him that he has no experience with double D’s! Finally the shop clerk put him out of his embarrassing misery and told him it referred to cup size. I believe he was still majorly confused!
I’m just disgusted with this show. For the designers to go on and on about the size of their clients and the fact that they were a negative 3 was gross. They need to realize that when they step outside the walls of Project Runway, their clients may not always be perfect proportions and sizes. They will be dressing all different body types. But the way a lot of them acted on this weeks show, especially Oliver Green, they may have just shot themselves in the foot.

I so agree. I used to like the show when they didn’t talk much about the size of the models but I hate it when a negative size is something to be desired. Healthy size is best!
