This past Friday, my kids had another Tae Kwon Do graduation, only this graduation was there last. I’d love to say it’s because they achieved their black belts, but they haven’t. Unfortunately the school was closing. While there were tears around the room over the school closing, this graduation was probably the best one we’ve ever been apart of. Everyone made their next belt rank, everyone broke their boards and everyone truly had a great time (even though the graduation lasted HOURS)!
Bella was very excited to do her nunchuck demo. She insisted on doing her’s alone, rather than with the rest of the group in her Dragon’s class. Why? Because Bella has been practicing a demo she wanted to do for a long time and part of that demo included cartwheels. It was hilarious! Check it out (sorry about the camera shaking):
After Bella’s demo, Zachary was up to break his boards. He had two board breaks for this graduation. One with his elbow and the other with a front kick. Despite what he says, Zachary gets very nervous for this portion of the graduation. I think part of him is afraid it will hurt (rightfully so!) and the other part is afraid that it wouldn’t break. Well that wasn’t a problem for him this time! He shattered both boards on the first try! Way to go Zack!
Bella broke her first board and her instructor asked her if that was too easy. Of course, Bella being Bella, replied with “yes” so she ran up and grabbed the next size board. This board was a little more difficult for her to break. But she finally got it and boy was she proud!
It really is a shame that the school had to close. Bella was in the Dragon’s program, which is for kids under 6. She made it all the way through all the belts and received her Camo-colored belt. Which, according to her instructor, is equivalent to a black belt for the Dragon’s. So if you ask Bella, she may just tell you she got her black belt! Zachary received his red-black belt and a certificate stating that he is being recommended for his black belt. Basically what this means, had the school not closed, Zachary would have had to do one midterm and one graduation and he would have received his black belt.
Way to go kiddo’s! This mama is very proud!
