Besides wearing flannel and checking out the Lumberjack Feud show, the number one thing I was looking forward to on my trip to Pigeon Forge, TN with the rest of the girls attending Brandcation was ziplining with CLIMB Works Canopy. You see…I saw this ziplining experience as a once and a lifetime opportunity. I’ve never really ziplined before, unless you count the dinky little line we went on at a ropes camp in high school. But I don’t really count that. It was like Alvin and the Chipmunks on Chipwrecked. Before having kids, I was a dare devil. I did anything and everything and never once thought about the consequences. Since having kids, I’ve found myself afraid of everything. I stopped going on roller coasters…though I did conquer that fear at Dollywood…so I figured I would be able to overcome my fear of heights and the unknown and zipline with everyone else.
Upon arriving at CLIMB Works Canopy Ziplining, I was immediately impressed with how nice everyone was. They welcomed us immediately, showed us how to sign in and then started getting us in our gear. And then my fear started to take over. But I pushed through and got suited up.
Yes…I was as nervous as I looked!
Our tour started with an extremely fun, four wheel drive up to the top of the mountain. It was after I saw the bridge I needed to climb, how high up we were and the fact that my only way down was driving back down the mountain, did my fear start to really grab a hold of me. But again, I pushed forward. I listened to (and practiced) all the different techniques we needed (be sure to ask for extra demonstrations of the Starfish…and then thank me later!!) and I even climbed the Scooby Doo bridge (my name for it, not theirs) up to the first platform. By this point I was shaking so bad I could barely stand up. And…I’m ashamed to say, the tears started. My fear of heights took over big time and I was not able to do it. I got all the way to the edge of the platform, hooked to the line, but I would not let go of the wire next to me. Our amazing tour guide asked me several times if I was sure I couldn’t go and each time I whispered “yes”. So I climbed back down the Scooby Doo bridge and waited for my four wheeler to drive me back down the mountain.
I was crushed. And mad. And horribly disappointed in myself. I wanted to do this really bad. I could hear everyone yelling and laughing. I knew they were having a good time. But instead, once I was down the mountain, I sat inside CLIMB Works until my group (and ride) were finished. And you know what? Even though I didn’t go ziplining, I still had a blast. I met a lot of REALLY nice people who took the time to talk to me about their business; things they have coming up; and see some really great pictures of different ziplining adventures they’ve done.
If you are heading to the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area, you MUST check out CLIMB Works Canopy Ziplining. You will have an adventure of a lifetime! Right now they are offering Night Zipline Tours!

Hugs! I really wish you could have made it. It was a ton of fun. There was one platform, though, that I was terrified on. They called it bendy pine or something similar. It moved… a LOT! Yes, it’s scary, but it’s such a rush. I’m glad you tried, though!!

Oh Leah…You sounded just like I did the first time I went…everything, up to the tears and all…I cried out of fear I guess too…it just kind of happened…Right? Like it was automatic.
I think it is just fine you didn’t “do the deed”. You still had fun and got to know a great company and some great people!

*hugs* It is very very very scary and hard to conquer that fear! At least you tried!!
