Lysol is introducing this new initiative centered on keeping families healthy. They’re calling this initiative, Healthing. This was my motto this winter when I was so sick over and over again. I may not have known the term Healthing, but I was doing my best to clean so my family would stay healthy.
Having an eight year old boy and a six year old girl, I am forever telling them to wash their hands…or to keep those hands out of their mouth. What is it with kids and always putting their hands, pencil or their toy in their mouth? Gross. When I found out about the Lysol Healthing initiative, I definitely wanted to check out the site. Once there, you can download a handbook that talks about the importance being clean has on your health. I figured if I downloaded that, I could share that with the kids to help them better understand.
While at the Lysol Healthing site, I took the Healthing quiz. Check out my results:
It’s official ladies and gentlemen, I’m a Healthing Ambassador! You can become one to by taking the quiz (and you get a money saving coupon too)!
Some of the things that I do to when we get sick are:
- I wipe down every counter after every use.
- All doorknobs and basically anything we touch, gets wiped down.
- I wash all bed linens every single day so we always have fresh, clean linens
- Toothbrushes either get thrown away or soaked in Listerine and Peroxide.
I swear by always having fresh linens. Sure your water bill significantly increases during that time, but if it means you’re not sick for as long…it’s worth it!
Lysol Healthing Tips
- Don’t let spring cleaning overwhelm you – take it one room at a time and stock up on products that will help you to get the job done effectively, including LYSOL products, paper towels, sponges and trash bags.
- Know the difference between cleaning and disinfecting! Both are important components of the Healthing process and LYSOL has products that can help with all related tasks. While cleaning and organizing is certainly important, killing germs on commonly touched surfaces can lower the risk of spreading bacteria and viruses between members of the family.
- Start with the basics – wipe down easy to reach surfaces and then move onto the little nooks and crannies. Remember to dust around wall art, photographs and woodwork. Use a disinfectant product, like LYSOL.
- Disinfecting wipes, to help ensure you’re killing germs as you clean, and think beyond the usual places. Be sure to clean even the smallest surfaces, such as light switches.
- Don’t forget to disinfect places that you don’t see or think about often, like the door knobs, cabinet handles or sink drains.
- Make it a family activity and tailor tasks to specific age groups. Give younger children simpler, one-step tasks like dusting or picking toys up off the floor, and save the more complex jobs, such as vacuuming, scrubbing and disinfecting for older members of the family.
- Remember to practice proper hand washing as well after you clean, either with soap and water for 20 seconds, or a hand sanitizer. Hand washing is the single most important thing you can do to prevent illness, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
