Two summers ago, teenagers started breaking into peoples cars on our street. My husbands car was one of them. What a nightmare. As if that wasn’t bad enough, last summer, actual houses on my street were getting broken into. Now before you think I live in the hood, I don’t. I live in a nice area, with great schools, but this was still happening. A home security system would have been helpful.
Fast forward to this summer…I haven’t heard anything about people breaking into houses, but with my husband traveling as much as he does, it makes me nervous. There are times I’m about to go to bed and it sounds like someone is walking around in my kitchen. I freak myself out to the point where I can’t go to sleep and I am sitting in my room, playing Candy Crush with the light on for at least an hour. It’s nuts and has to stop. I need some peace of mind. The way I see it, I have three options:
Sleep with a Baseball Bat
OK I will admit something…I used to do that. When the break-ins started, I grabbed my old softball bat and slept with it. But there are times my husband comes home from a work trip at like 2 am. I can’t be beating him with a bat because he scared me. Plus…while my kids are older and should (SHOULD) know better, I don’t need to tempt them with playing with a metal bat. Especially right now…Zachary is oddly fascinated with baseball. I can just see us replacing windows a lot sooner than we had planned.
Get a Gun
Yep. Not happening. Moving on.
Get a Home Security System
Now this is an actual possibility. I mentioned it to Dan last weekend and I started looking into different companies like Vivint. What I like about a lot of the different companies I looked into is the fact that with an app, I can control everything from my iphone. Most security systems also texts or sends emails with updates. Since my phone is ALWAYS with me, a text would be great.
I haven’t looked into security systems enough yet to know if this is a possibility, but I would love it if you could set the alarm off from your cell phone if you suspect someone is trying to break in. At our first house, the high school kids walking home from the bus loved to lean up against my car and talk. That annoyed me. So one day I decided to press the panic button on my key fob. Not only was it hilarious to see them run away, but they never did it again.
