When we got Roxie, I debated on whether or not to get The Litter Genie Plus. I asked around and some people said they liked it while others were like “just walk it out to the trash“. We keep the litter box in our master bathroom. I like having it there because as soon as I wake up in the morning, I scoop the litter. When I go upstairs to get the kids in bed or go to bed myself, I scoop the litter (yes I realize I am a bit OCD about it all). Basically I have a very clean litter box. I like that because it doesn’t smell. But if I had to walk it outside each time, I don’t see me keeping the litter as clean as I do…not to mention, I don’t want my garage (where we keep our garbage cans) to smell like cat feces.

The Litter Genie
So after reading review after review after review, I decided to purchase a Litter Genie Plus . It got amazing reviews and I really was convinced that it would help me stay on top of keeping the litter box clean. Plus, it wasn’t very expensive. After shopping around, I ended up picking it up at my local Target on sale. I hate waiting for things to be shipped to me. I’m kind of like that when I decide to get my hair cut too. I’ll call every salon around me and get really disappointed that they can’t take me that day and then end up not getting my hair cut for like two months or longer.
How it Works
Each Litter Genie comes with a cartridge that has the bags in it that you use to collect the dirty cat litter. You need to pull the bag through and tie a knot at the end. I make sure I pull enough of the bag through so it will collect a week’s worth of litter since my garbage day is on Thursday’s. When you scoop your litter, you pour it inside the Litter Genie and pull the lever to let the litter dump into the bag. This insures that all odors are locked away! When you are ready to dispose of that bag, there is a child safe cutter on the inside that you slide the top of the bag through and it cuts the bag away so you can tie a knot at the top and dispose of the litter!
Where Can You Find It?
Check out The Litter Genie website for a detailed list of where you can purchase The Litter Genie. In my town, I found it at:
- Target
- Petsmart
- Petco
- Pet Supplies Plus
Out of all the places above, Target had it for the least expensive. They also sell the refill cartridges as a two pack.
My Thoughts
I love it! I was a little apprehensive. Mainly because I had something similar when my kids were in diapers and it smelled horrendous! But The Litter Genie doesn’t smell at all. Last week I forgot to take the garbage out, so this week I had two weeks of litter in the Litter Genie to dispose of and I’m telling you right now, my bathroom did not smell AT ALL. My husband, who is very sensitive to different odors and who was not home at all during this time, walked in the day before garbage day and he had no idea that there was two weeks of dirty litter sitting in that bathroom.
So I definitely give the Litter Genie a HUGE thumbs up and would recommend it to anyone with a cat!
**I was not asked to write this review, nor did I receive any product in place of this review. I purchased The Litter Genie with my own money and love it so much that I had to share it with you all!

Okay, that is the cutest little kitty in the world!! I heard the advertisement about this on TV and wondered if it worked. When I had cats, I had a litter box that automatically cleaned itself when the cat stepped out. It would put the poo into a sealed cartridge. This sounds kind of similar, but I haven’t seen what they look like. I used the Diaper Genie Elite II with my kids, and it did okay as long as I took the bag out frequently.

I’m glad the Litter Genie is working out. Funny you should mention that you had something similar for diapers. I think I must have had that same item, and it definitely got smelly.

Your kitty is so cute – reminds me of the cat in Shrek with those big eyes! I know someone with many cats who would LOVE the Litter Genie.
