When I am picking a wine for someone, I will admit, it is solely on what the bottle looks like or how funny the name sounds (Mad Housewife, Cat Piss on a Gooseberry Bush, to name a few!). But when it comes to taste, there’s really only one I have found that I like and embarrassingly, it tastes just like grape juice.
However, when I was asked to try out the Bon Affair wine, I was instantly intrigued. Bon Affair wine is:
- California Wine
- Purified Carbonated Water
- Electrolytes
- Grape Seed Extract
- 6.5% ABV (more than the average beer, less than wine)
Two things on that list stuck out to me…the electrolytes and Grape Seed Extract. First of all, I couldn’t help but think that the electrolytes are a nice addition. It seems that you may not get that tell tale headache you get the day after drinking wine (or at least the headache I get!). Secondly, the Grape Seed Extract is something my friend Lynsey of Moscatomom.com (ironically!) is always swearing by! So it was a no brainer, I had to try this wine!
About Bon Affair
These wine spritzers are ready to drink and they have half the calories of regular wine, electrolytes, and ZERO sugar! Here is a little about the brand:
Jayla Siciliano is always looking for a better way to do this thing called life. She credits her friends at Diesel and Burton for inspiring Bon Affair. During seven years as a product specialist for those global brands, happy hour was an essential job skill. Jayla loved it–until that morning in Hong Kong. After two weeks of toasting co-workers, she woke up at 5 a.m. with a new vision. She needed a lighter, everyday wine option that fit her professional, active lifestyle. The solution: wine spritzers. The problem? A good one didn’t exist. So Jayla made it her mission. She quit her job to create a better, modern spritzer worthy of America’s awesome wine culture. Between MBA classes, she consulted beverage experts. The spritzer had to share her values–real wine, all-natural, zero added sugar. She added electrolytes (why not?). After four years, Bon Affair is fully realized.
Bon Affair comes in Sauvignon Blanc or Syrah in a 750ml bottle. You can purchase Bon Affair online at www.bonaffair.com (available to NY, FL, CA, AZ, IL, NH, VT, OH) or at retail stores in the San Diego region.
My Thoughts
I liked it! The taste is crisp…reminds me a bit like champagne and I love love LOVE champagne! I also liked that I really didn’t get that “you drank too much wine the night before” headache the next morning.
I also really liked the looks of the bottle…remember, I told you already that when I buy wine for someone, the name and the looks of the bottle is always my reason for purchasing!
