Since 1894, Labor day has been celebrated in the United States and Canada on the first Monday of September. This day was designated to celebrate the hardworking men and women. However…while, I love how hardworking everyone is…Labor Day has a totally new meaning for me. To me, Labor Day means…THE KIDS GO BACK TO SCHOOL TOMORROW! I love my kids dearly, but after a summer of “I’m bored”; “he touched me”; “she’s breathing on me”, I’ve pretty much had it. So I look forward to Labor day!

Fun Labor Day Activities
The Labor Day extended weekend is also a great opportunity to enjoy the last of the summer sunshine and have some fun. From planning your own “Farewell to Summer BBQ” to hosting a traditional Labor Day party, there are lots of things you can do to celebrate. Homewetbar, for example has a great post on hosting a traditional, white-themed party and there are a variety of traditional recipes over at a Taste of Home that you can make for your get together. When our friends and family get together, our food usually includes:
- Hamburgers
- Hot Dogs
- Chinese Coleslaw
- An Arabic dish of some sort (usually Kafta)
- Crazy amazing baked beans
- Corn on the cob
- Watermelon
- Pound cake or other desserts
If you are having a BBQ this holiday, you really need to try my delicious recipe for grilled corn on the cob…you’ll never eat corn no the cob any other way!
Delicious Grilled Corn on the Cob
Ingredients
- Ears of corn
- Butter
- Sriracha Sauce
Directions
- Remove husks and silk from the corn. I find doing this under cool water works the best.
- Melt about 2 TBS butter in the microwave.
- Add as much Sriracha Sauce as you would like. I tend to put a few drops, taste and then add a couple more until I have the perfect taste (I like it spicy)!
- Brush the butter and Sriraha Sauce mixture onto the corn. Wrap each ear of corn in tin foil and place on the grill.
- Place ears of corn wrapped in foil on the grill and cook for about 20-30 mins or until the corn is tender.
This corn is to die for. My husband and I absolutely love it like this. My kids, not so much. However, you can brush melted butter and season with salt and pepper for the kids. Or whatever seasonings you prefer. We’ve also used garlic powder.
