There are two things I really wanted more than anything when I was a kid…to be able to touch my fingers together and stop time like Evie on Out of This World (oh and her hand chair…I wanted that too) and I wanted Ed McMahon to appear on my doorstep with a gigantic check saying I won millions of dollars. However, guess what I just found out??? Ed McMahon never worked for the Publishers Clearing House; Ed McMahon never held gigantic checks; and Ed McMahon never appeared on people’s doorsteps. I think everyone dreams of winning the lottery.
*This post is brought to you by Genworth for Brandfluential. Stories and opinions stated are 100% my own.
But why do I specifically remember seeing him do this? Apparently Ed McMahon worked for American Family Publishers and that company basically copied everything that the Publishers Clearing House did and somehow every single American distinctly remembers Ed McMahon ambushing families with giant checks and balloons. BUT IT NEVER HAPPENED! Mind. Is. Blown. Seriously!
Despite one major memory of my childhood being one huge illusion, I still dream about winning millions of dollars. Who doesn’t? In this day and age where people seem to be working longer and longer because they can’t afford to retire, winning the lottery makes retiring from your job much easier! However, as you start approaching retirement, be sure to seek out help from places like Genworth to make sure you know everything you need to know about retiring and doing it right!
Like anyone else who has ever purchased a lottery ticket, I have made a list of all the things I will do with the money when I win (notice my optimistic outlook…):
- Pay off my second mortgage so I can sell my house.
- Build my “Really Real, I’m never moving from it, I’m going to die in it” house.
- Set up college funds for the kids.
- Set up trust funds for the kids.
- Fly to California and
stalkvisit the Ellen Degeneres show. - Buy a whole new wardrobe…mama needs it!
That’s basically it. I really don’t think winning the lottery would really change me, other than the fact that I would probably start dressing better! All joking aside, winning the lottery would secure my financial future and that of my children, but like most American’s, I know the chances of winning are slim to none…but a girl can dream, can’t she?!?

If I won the lottery I would build my dream home, pay off all of my moms bills and buy my husband his dream car. I’d probably save a bunch of it for retirement so my husband doesn’t have to work until he dies. 🙂

I would love to win the lottery! I would hope that I would be smart and invest and save for retirement though!

I would do all the things you said! Well, mostly! Pay off mortgage, build a house, college, savings, trusts – I would also give to so many causes that are near to my heart. If only they would pick my numbers. LOL Guess I need to make another plan. Huh? Thanks for the info!

my husband and I have been saving for retirement since we started working…of course it started as just $50 a month! It is important to start planning early!

I wouldn’t do a whole lot if I won the lottery. I pay off my house and put in a swimming pool. Then I’d pretty much live the lifestyle I currently have, I just would work a whole lot less 🙂

I’d quit my job for starters but I’m a workaholic, so I’d probably finally get to writing the novel I”ve always wanted to write. Plus, I’d take lots of vacations with the family. Maybe hit up London!
