When my kids were little, I couldn’t wait for them to start school. Not because they will be gone from the house more than they are here, but because I could NOT wait to be a “room mother“. Only they don’t really call it that anymore. Now you are just a “parent helper”. And boy did I volunteer! Both of my kids went to a co-op preschool, which means that parents must volunteer in the classroom in order for the classroom to run, so I was volunteering a lot and I loved it. During my time at that school, I not only helped in the classroom, but I also was on the board for the school; one year I was in charge of enrollment; and another year, I was responsible for all of the fundraising and field trips.
Once they went to elementary school, I helped out as much as I could. I either worked in their classrooms or I even volunteered in the copy room to make the copies the teachers needed. My son is in 4th grade so my time of volunteering in the classroom is coming to an end. Thankfully, my daughter is only in 1st grade, so I have a few more years ahead of me in that department!
I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for State Farm. I received a promotional item to thank me for participating.
State Farm put out a call to communities all over the United States and Canada to see what causes people would like to see the State Farm Neighborhood Assist program help. 200 causes were chosen and now State Farm would like YOU to help by voting for your favorite causes (can be done daily) and bring that list of 200 down to a list of 40 causes that will be awarded $25,000!
The State Farm Assist program is a wonderful way for individuals to really stop and think about how they can do to make their communities better. So head on over and vote daily (10 votes a day) for your favorite cause or causes. The 200 causes have until May 16, 2014 to rally enough votes and then the winning 40 causes will be announced on May 27, 2014.
If I were to select something for my city, I think I would like to see our sports fields get a makeover. They need to be leveled and have all wholes filled in. Both of my kids, along with hundreds of other kids in our community play sports, so a brand new set of fields for them would be wonderful.
