I’ve worn glasses since I was in 4th grade. Getting glasses as a 4th grader in the 80’s was horrible. There was nothing stylish about the 80’s glasses. Mine were huge, mauve colored glasses. I tried to find a picture, but those glasses were so hideous, I took them off for every picture! Seriously. I will admit, when I found out my daughter did not pass the eye exam given by the state at school a few years ago, I panicked. I felt like Josie Gellar in Never Been Kissed when all of her childhood memories came flooding back to her. However, I quickly realized…no need to panic! Glasses have come a long way since the 80’s!
Despite my aversion to my first pair of glasses, I’ve always enjoyed getting eye exams, purchasing glasses and wearing contacts. Is that weird? When I was in high school, and before I had this lovely astigmatism, I used to get colored contacts. Now my eyes are naturally very dark blue. Add blue colored contacts and I literally looked like I had marbles for eyes. I also tried green contacts and violet colored contacts. So when I was asked if I would like to head over to my local LensCrafters in Twelve Oaks mall in Novi, Mi and try out the new AccuExam eye exam. To thank you for my time, I was given a new pair of glasses. I, of course, said yes!
*I was asked to attend a local LensCrafters store where I received an eye exam and a complimentary pair of glasses to thank me for my time. All opinions are 100% my own, as always!
To be honest, I haven’t been in a LensCrafters in quite awhile. No real reason other than I had an eye doctor that I saw and just ordered my glasses there. From the moment I walked into the store, I felt welcomed. I was greeted almost immediately (so were other people that walked in behind me…I wasn’t getting special treatment just because they knew I would be writing about it) and only had to wait a few moments before I was taken back to begin the AccuExam.
What is the AccuExam Eye Exam?
The AccuExam utilizes state of the art technology to read the shape of your eyes to determine the best prescription for you, as well as, help detect health issues. You start out by having your eyes scanned (it’s painless…I promise!) by different machines. This will provide your doctor with enough information about your eye health to quickly narrow down your prescription. And by quickly, I do mean quickly. Most of use are so used to answering the “which is better 1 or 2” over and over again so our eye doctor can manually pinpoint the prescription. With the AccuExam eye exam, the “which is better…” is significantly cut down.
The fact that all the different diagnostic scans I had done were able to pinpoint my prescription was shocking to me. I will admit, I sat in the chair waiting for Dr. Olswing and I was pretty skeptical about this entire process. But…when I say this was the best eye exam I’ve ever had, I’m not joking! It was quick and accurate. You can’t ask for much more than that!
Picking out glasses was a lot of fun! While I was in with Dr. Olswing, one of the employees was gathering a bunch of different frames that he thought would look good on me and that I would like. He did a really great job! we tried each of them on, grabbed others and when I had it narrowed down to a few different choices, he took pictures of me with his iPad so we could compare. Once I narrowed down the frames, we went to the back for a semi-private fitting done digitally. Unfortunately when I went to pick my new frames up, one of the coatings on the lenses was cracked so they needed to send my frames back out to be fixed. But as soon as I get them back, I will share the picture on Instagram!
My Thoughts
The AccuExam was pretty darn amazing! I’ve never had an eye exam where I walked out of the exam feeling confident with my results. It’s not that my current eye doctor has ever given me a poor exam. Quite the opposite, but when your results rely on how well you answer “is 1 or 2 better” and after doing that several times they all look the same, you start to second guess if you answered correctly. There is no second guessing with the AccuExam.
