One of my favorite comfort foods in the world is a great grilled cheese sandwich! When I was pregnant with my son, I craved meat and cheese. If I wasn’t eating a Whopper Jr., then I was eating a grilled cheese sandwich! Funny enough, he loves a grilled cheese sandwich too! On nights when I need to make a quick dinner for them, I usually make them a hot ham and cheese sandwich. I was going to do this last night, but I was all out of ham. So I decided to change things up a bit and make the a pizza grilled cheese sandwich. There response to the new grilled cheese sandwich was CRAZY! It was safe to say, the pizza grilled cheese sandwich was a winner in our house!
Pizza Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Ingredients
- 2 slices of Bread
- Thin sliced Mozzarella Cheese, 2-3 slices
- Pepperoni, 2 slices
- Butter
- Pinch of Garlic Salt
- Marinara Sauce for dipping
Directions
- Take the desired amount of butter to butter both slices of bread and place it in a small bowl. Add the pinch of garlic salt, mix and microwave for about seven seconds to slightly soften the butter.
- Turn your stove on medium heat. I have stainless steel pans I very much like, but for things like grilled cheese and pancakes, I prefer to use this inexpensive, nonstick frying pan
- Butter each slice of bread and assemble your grilled cheese and grill it until it is a nice golden brown color.
So simple, yet so delicious! I wish I had gluten free bread at home so I could have made me one! Do not leave out the ingredient that really makes this sandwich crazy good…the pinch of garlic salt. I don’t know about you, but we like flavored crust pizza in this house and by adding the garlic salt to the pizza grilled cheese sandwich, it gives it that “flavored crust” taste!
The kids went absolutely crazy!
“This pizza grilled cheese sandwich is the best thing ever!”
“It tastes like garlic bread, pizza and grilled cheese all at once!”
“Can we have this again tomorrow?”
One tip, when you are grilling the pizza grilled cheese sandwich, flip it often. Some people like to let it sit for a specific amount of minutes on each side. I find that unreliable; one side always ends up darker than the other accidentally. By flipping it often, you are able to better control how toasted your bread gets and you end up with the best pizza grilled cheese sandwich ever! My daughter enjoyed dipping her pizza grilled cheese sandwich in marinara sauce, but said that she wants to dip it in Ranch dressing next time since she dips pizza in Ranch.
While the pizza grilled cheese sandwich is beyond delicious, there are so many ways you can dress up the traditional grilled cheese sandwich. Some ideas I have are:
- Add bacon…everything tastes better with bacon!
- Turkey and guacamole
- Use Feta cheese and gyro meat
- Mix different cheeses
