What Do You Look for in Furniture?

My husband and I are in desperate need of furniture.  When we first got married, everything was hand me downs.  The couch we had in our living room in our first house literally looked like it came off the set of That 70’s Show!  No matter how out dated it looked, it was very comfortable!  I was almost sad to see it go.

When we bought our second house we were very excited to buy our first “real” set of furniture.  We chose an large sectional that was VERY comfortable.  But after having it in the house, we ended up breaking up the sectional and putting pieces in different rooms…it just worked better that way.  The middle section of the sectional got eaten by a dog.  Literally…she ate it.  So that piece had to get thrown out.  Then the best part of the section, my seat, had a sippy cup turned upside down under the cushion.  Sippy cups really are not leak proof.  This sippy cup leaked milk and the milk soaked into the wood.  There is no getting that stench out.  So out went that piece.  We are now left with one final piece of the sectional.

As you can imagine, we are always on the look out for new furniture.  My thinking is to look at comfortable sofa beds.  Our spare bedroom has been converted into my husband’s office.  If someone wanted to crash at our house, there would be no where for them to sleep.  A sofa bed, for our house, seems like a no brainer.  We have a couch in our family room to enjoy watching television and we have a bed for my husband to sleep in when he snores company if they decide to stay over.  It sounds like a win-win situation to me!

I’m thinking something like this would look really nice in my family room:

What do you think?  Now that my kids are a little older (and I have banned everything but water in my family room), I don’t think I have to worry too much about stains on the furniture.  Not to mention, pull that sofa bed out for family movie night and that would be very comfortable!

Leave me a comment and tell me about your favorite piece of furniture?  What about that piece of furniture made you buy it?
