New Years Eve is a special night for my husband and I. On New Years Eve in 1999, it was where we decided we were going to spend the rest of our lives together. Sure we were drunk and sure we did talk about driving to Vegas, but even when we sobered up the next day, we still had the same plan (only not the Vegas part…that will happen on our 10th anniversary).
Each year after that New Years Eve, we’ve always gone out and had a great dinner together and then come home and play Trivial Pursuit (we’re pretty competitive with each other too) while we waited for the ball to drop. It’s probably good that we got into that habit because once we had kids, the going out part stopped all together. Instead we decorate the house, get noise makers, and then I make a bunch of different types of appetizers and we drink sparkling grape juice and toast the New Year. Usually I google the ball dropping video from the year before, have the kids watch it, yell “Happy New Year” and then they go to bed at like 8 so my husband and I can still play Trivial Pursuit.
This years New Years was sponsored by Tyson! Not too long ago, I did a review of the awesome Tyson Any’tizers and even had a giveaway for a coupon to get a FREE bag. Tyson liked my review so much that they provided me with everything I needed for my New Years Eve evening. Here are the Tyson products that I had:
My favorite, by far was the Any’tizer Chicken Chunks with Spice Sweet and Sour Sauce. The flavor was to die for! I liked that it was all white meat chicken, so you knew exactly what you were eating and it wasn’t too spicy, yet it had a nice kick to it. The kids really liked the Any’tizer Honey BBQ Chicken Boneless Wings, as well as the Tyson Crispy Chicken Strips.
While the food was cooking, the kids went out on the porch and played with those fun Pop Itsthat you throw at the ground and they explode. They thought they were hilarious. Especially when my husband stepped on one with his bare feet (serves him right going out in the cold barefoot…who does that?). The kids were laughing like crazy as they threw them at the ground and it was the perfect activity to tie them over until the food was ready.
As a tradition, we drink sparkling grape juice with dinner on New Years Eve (Dan and I save the “adult” drinks for later). My daughter had us laughing so hard. I think this may have been the first time she really drank it…for some reason I want to say that last year she did not. Anyhow, she kept telling us that the juice was making her throat “giggle”! Zachary, on the other hand, would have drank the whole bottle, right from the bottle, if we let him! Normally I make a trip to the dollar store to get plastic champagne glasses so the kids have “fancy” glasses too, but I completely forgot this year. Along with the Tyson Any’tizers, we also had salsa flavored Sunchips, cookies left over from Christmas, and a veggie platter.
Instead of googling the ball dropping this year…my son can read dates and whatnot so I think he would have totally figured out what I was doing…I bought a movie from the bargain bin at Walmart. We all sat down and watched Dennis the Menace. It was hilarious! The kids were laughing and it was actually enjoyable for us as well.
It was a VERY fun night! Thank you Tyson for providing us with everything we needed to have a fun New Years Eve party. Happy New Year!!!
