“Mom, mom, mom…can I have some candy? Please mom. Please”
How many of you hear that on a daily basis? Sometimes even multiple times a day? My kids, when they ask, are constantly wanting candy. Can’t say I blame them. I love candy myself. But as someone that would like to give them a healthier alternative to candy from time to time, I was very excited to find out about Raisels, a new product form the National Raisin Company, which is a family owned and operated company.
So what exactly is a Raisel, you might ask? Raisels are:
- Fruity flavored raisins that are lightly dusted with sugar
- They are rich in antioxidants, fat free, cholesterol free and 100% US RDA for Vitamin C
- They contain NO sodium, NO high fructose corn syrup or artificial sweeteners

Some of you may be thinking, “you just said they are dusted with sugar, how in the world is that a healthier alternative”? Well it’s simple. 90% of the sugar contained in Raisels is naturally occurring (the number one ingredient in Raisels is raisins). If you want to compare apples to apples, there is 5x more added sugar in Raisels than in one serving of dried cranberries. Now compare that to a bag of candy and a can of pop…there is 19x more sugar added to a bag of Skittles and 17x more sugar added to a 12 ounce can of Coke.
Now I know there are some of you who would really like to see how the total sugar adds up. Check out these numbers:
- Raisels contain 23 grams of sugar
- Yoplait Original Strawberry Yogurt contains 26 grams of sugar
- 3.25″ diameter apple contains 23 grams of sugar
- 1.5 ounce Hershey Bar contains 24 grams sugar
As you can see, Raisels really compare nicely to other snacks we give our children. My kids love Raisels and it makes for a nice snack to grab out of the pantry and stuff in my purse for those days when we are out and about.
Raisels come in peach, lemon, apple and orange flavors and can be found at the following retailers: Walgreens, Target, Dollar General, Food Maxx, Price Chopper, Raley’s, Stater Brothers, Tops, Wegmans, Weiss, Amazon, Wakefern & PriceRight, Associated Food Supplied, and SuperValu Supplied. But guess what, one of you can win a variety pack RIGHT HERE! Read on for details!
