I’m fat. There, I said it. But here’s the thing…I don’t want to be fat. Not anymore. Almost a year and a half ago I found out I was Type 2 Diabetic. It was the answer I needed to finally figure out why I was gaining weight and not losing. It helped me to get on the “lose weight” journey. Once I started Metformin to help keep my blood sugar in check AND counting carbs, the weight started to fall off. I lost 50lbs in 7 months. However, my busy life got in the way and I was not as careful with following my low carb plan. Not only was that stupid because of my Diabetes, but I also gained almost 20 pounds back.

Lose Weight with Me
But this all ends now. I am back on the wagon, I am using the My Fitness Pal app to track my food and weight loss, and I am hoping all of you can help me stay accountable. I am going to do something that is very hard for me. I am going to tell every single one of you how much I weigh and I am going to do that each week I weigh in. Â So without further ado…here is my weight as of July 6, 2012:
There you have it…219.8lbs. Â UGH.
So here’s the plan:
- Use My Fitness Pal to track all food I eat and log my weight each week
- Meet with the trainer at the gym on Monday to carve out a plan for me
- Work out at least 3 times a week, but shoot for 5 times.
- Get back to counting carbs
If you haven’t used My Fitness Pal…sign up! Â You will love it! So who’s willing to hold me accountable and help me get to my goal weight? Ideally I would like to weigh 140. Let’s lose weight together!

Thank you!

I am so proud of you for doing this so out in the open.
I have also put on weight because of my spinal injury and now actually weigh the same as I did when I was pregnant with my first child 25 years ago. To be fair, I had an eating disorder shortly before I got pregnant, so putting on 50 pounds while pregnant wasn’t all that horrible and I lost most of it after.
I would never have told anyone before in public, but you’ve given me the courage to admit that I now weigh 160.8 and I want to weigh 130. (Whew…)
I am limited in my ability to exercise because of my disability… I can walk on a limited basis, do my stretching, and swim (thank goodness the water is now warm enough that I don’t have spasms).
I will be with you to encourage you, even if I don’t lose the weight I want to…. I know you will do it – you are AMAZING!!
Leah says
Thank you so much for your kind words! You can lose the weight. I know you can!

Wow!! you are a brave woman!!!
I have never shared that number with anyone other than at my doctor. I
just this week have started my own journey toward better health and lower weight. (sadly I’m at an all time high) Best Wishes to you and I want to watch and encourage you in your walk, jog, run …lol

Good for you! That is so brave of you to put that out there for everyone to see. I am also struggling with my weight I have pcos and that makes it hard to lose weight, but easy to gain! Since pcos affects insulin doctors suggest low carb lifestyle and metformin…..so I’m in the same boat as you. I was on the Met for about 4 years but I recently had to stop taking it because it was making me sick to my stomach so now it’s low carb living and working out! I’m looking forward to reading about your journey!

I’m fat, I’m a food addict. I try every day to “stay on the wagon”. Some days are good, some are awful. Here’s to both our successes. I wish you the best of luck and look forward to seeing your progress! What’s your name on My Fitness Pal by the way? Need a friend?

We are almost the same weight. (I can’t believe I just “said” that “out loud” … ) I will help you!
My problem: I don’t have the motivation I need to lose the weight.
I’d like to be at 140, too. (That’s what I weighed when I got married and I’d love to be back there.)
GOOD LUCK!! Let me know if you need help!!

Thanks for sharing, Leah!! Diabetes stinks; that’s what I think about it! I just started Metformin 2 months ago for both PCOS and Pre-Diabetes. I have lost 11 pounds so far. I just wish that it wouldn’t give me such bad stomach problems. If the truth were known, that in itself is probably a contributing factor to my weight loss. Oh well, whatever it takes to live a long healthy life with my little “miracle” babies! 🙂 I am going to have to try out the My Fitness Pal. I am sooo bad about exercising.

I really like My Fitness pal. The other thing that has helped me is purchasing a fitbit!
