I really lucked out when I had my babies. I needed a c-section with each of them and those aren’t cheap. However, our insurance covered everything 100%, with the exception of the television in the hospital room. I had to pay for that. Unfortunately, over the years, our insurance has changed a lot. It is very important to stay on top of what your health plan covers or you may be hit with a major bill when you’re least expecting it. For me, the biggest change is we now have to pay a percentage of just about everything. Before that, things were just covered.

Cigna Health Plan
Cigna wants you to Plan, Prepare and Prevent to make sure your Health Care Plan is working for your family:
Plan: Â We plan ahead for things like groceries, vacations, holidays, etc but one thing we don’t always plan ahead for is our health care needs. Â Some things you can think about is whether or not someone will be needing glasses or braces in the future.
Prepare: Â Sometimes we need to make quick decisions. Â Here are a few things we can do to make sure you are prepared to make those decisions:
- Know where your nearest Urgent Care is. Â They provide the same non-emergent care as an ER with less wait time and it costs a lot less. Â (In my case, the Urgent Care is the same co-pay as my doctors office).
- Check your health plan to see if it covers the 24/7 nurse line to get advice.
- Keep your pharmacy number on you at all times. Â Doctors can call prescriptions in, saving you a trip to their office.
Prevent: Â Take advantage of the Preventative Care your plan offers. Â In doing so, it can mean the difference between life and an early death. Â Visit your doctor each and every year.
My Thoughts
I am a firm believer in Preventative Care. Â I went to my doctor and was telling her how I am tired all the time, have no energy and can barely make it through a day without a nap. Â Based on our conversation, we decided to have my vitamin d and my thyroid checked. Â My thyroid was fine, but my vitamin d was a 7. Â The number should be over 30. Â Had I not done that, I would have gone on and on with a very low vitamin d level and who knows what else would have happened.
