My Football Player!

The time has finally come. My son wants to play football! As a parent, I have mixed feelings about this. He’s so little for his age. I’m concerned that he will get hurt. Not to mention the fear of head injuries. But, he wants to play; he knows his father played when he was younger, so we signed him up. His team name is The Lions, which is fun since we are from the metro Detroit area and are huge Detroit Lions fans! And yes, I realize some of you may not understand us being fans of a losing team like the Detroit Lions, but us people from Detroit love our teams and we are always rooting for them.

Football for Little Kids

In our area, little kids start playing football as early as second or third grade. While it makes me nervous, I have to admit, they look really cute in their football pads and helmets! Watching them learn to tackle and perfect all the different plays is a lot of fun. I often will sit with the other moms and watch practice. It’s fun to see how much they have improved in such a short period of time. It’s also great to see how hard they are working, despite how incredibly hot it is right now. I can’t imagine wearing a helmet on my head in this heat!

His Football Position

If you ask my son, he will tell you he wants to be a running back or the kicker. Right now they have him playing safety. I don’t know much about the sport, but my husband explained to me that the safety position is good for smaller players. Especially if those smaller players are going up against kids much larger than them. Maybe once he his a growth spurt, he can give one of those other positions a try!

Isn’t he cute?!?

SO cute! I love the close up of him and his helmet — great “game face!” 🙂
