My son had an in-school field trip a few months ago where they learned about the importance of going green. Some of the things they learned about are not leaving the water on when they brush their teeth; turning the lights off when they leave a room; and taking shorter showers. Zachary came home super excited and demanding that we install a timer in the shower so he knows how long he’s been in there. It was cute to see him so excited and passionate about something.
*I received the following Book, wristbands and poster for the purpose of this review. All opinions and stories are my own.
Jimmy’s Gone Green is a cute book on ways that kids can help their environment, in an easy to understand step-by-step guide. You know how kids are forever asking why? Well in this book, each step is followed by a fact! So not only are they helping to protect the environment, but they are also learning while they do it!!
Each step includes an eco-friendly fact, such as “if you turn off the water, when you brush your teeth, you’ll save 8 gallons of water each day!” The story’s main character empowers children to make small changes in their life that will impact their world in big ways. The earth-friendly theme caught the eye of child expert Dr. Toy who awarded the book a Dr. Toy’s Best Picks honor.
Jimmy’s Green Challenge
The Jimmy’s Gone Green book is part of a new conservation kit that also includes a poster, green wristbands and a magnet for the fridge. The wristbands are to be worn on your wrist (duh!) and they serve as a reminder to follow the steps they read in the book. For example:
Turn off the light when you leave a room
If you forget and walk out of the room and leave the light on, move the wristband to the other wrist. If you remember, leave it where it is. The idea is to go three days in a row without moving the band. The longer you can go without moving the wristband, the more your family will adopt new, eco-friendly habits!
The Jimmy’s Green Challenge Starter Kit, which includes the 36-page book written by Kathy Cane and illustrated by Tracy LaRue Hohn, is available at www.jimmysgreenchallenge.com. The kit is $19.99 and that includes FREE shipping!
