One year, my daughter wanted to be a Ninja Turtle for Halloween. She begged her brother to be a Ninja Turtle with her…and he did! Every time I look at this picture, I am reminded about how much they truly do care about each other…even when they are at each other’s throats!
That same year they decorated a pillow case to go trick or treating with. They brought home an insane amount of candy. I like candy like the next person, but it is a very dangerous thing to have in my house. Not to mention, I want my family to start making better food choices. So when I heard about the Halloween Buy Back program, I thought it was great!

What is the Halloween Buy Back Program?
In 2005, the organization was founded as a way to get kids’ excess Halloween candy “off the streets”. The program has since teamed up with Spry and Operation Gratitude; together they will partner with dentist offices nationwide to collect children’s Halloween candy to send to the troops overseas along with toothbrushes and necessary oral care items.
I think it’s great! Not only does this remove most of the candy from my house, but it is teaching kids to give back and give soldiers a Halloween away from home! When the kids participate in the buy back program, they are able to trade their candy in for small prizes or even a dollar per pound of candy!
This year, the program is being sponsored by Spry Dental Defense System. Spry products include:
- Gum
- Mint
- Oral care products
The nice thing about their products is that they utilize the ingredient xylitol, which is a naturally occurring sugar alternative. Xylitol has great dental health benefits.
