The topic of technology and kids seems to be a hot button nowadays. I read an article that listed how many hours a day kids, ages 0-18 should have a day and I have to say, it was rather ridiculous, if you ask me. My kids are 10 and 8 years old. While they don’t get free rein of the electronics in the house and I do believe I limit appropriately, they do get to use electronics more than the suggested amount. I think technology can play a very important role in education and helping kids develop and practice the skills they are learning in the classroom.
Joy Sprouts Inc, creators of the app, Joy Sprouts – Kids Preschool Education knows this and has created a fabulous app for our preschool aged children! What makes this app so great is that they are playing and learning at the same time…and they don’t even know it! Once you’ve put the app on your iPad, you need to create a profile for your child (you can create one for each of your children, if need be):
With the app, you have three downloads available to you:
- Where is Pooky?
- My Dad
- That’s My Job!
Joy Sprouts is built on the Head Start framework. Your children will be getting Cognition and General Knowledge (social studies, science and math), Language and Literacy, Social and Emotional development, Learning Approaches, Physical development, and Health content. The part I liked about the app is that, as the parent, I can see how my child is doing by the customizable reports. You can see how your child did, right after they finish a portion of the app.
When there is an area that is in need of some development, a recommendation is made! After a period of time, you can check your child’s development, putting in the date range of your choosing.
This is really a great app for preschool aged children. Joy Sprouts is FREE by visiting the app store. Download the app for your child today! The interactive ability with this app will be fun for both you and your child!
