It is officially summer in our house right now!! The kids had their last day of school yesterday. I now have a 6th grader and a 3rd grader! Crazy! I have a middle school aged child. The other day I told you about my plan to prevent the summer slide with the things they learned this past year. One of the things I want to make sure the kids do a lot of this summer, besides being outside a lot, is read. Check out the books we have on our summer reading list! Have you read any of them?

My son’s Summer Reading List
My son’s birthday is in a few days and he will be turning 11. This year the only things he asked for were books and gift cards! We took a bunch of pictures of books he was interested in and texted it to various family members when they asked for ideas for him. Here are a few of the books we chose:
- Wonder by R.J. Palacio
- The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate
- I Totally Funniest by James Patterson
- Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli
- House of Robots by James Patterson
- The Lightening Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) by Rick Riordan
- Harriet the Spy by Louis Fitzhugh
- The Bad Beginning (A series of unfortunate events) by Lemony Snicket
My Daughters Summer Reading List
My daughter is eight years old and she likes to read, but she likes to read non-fiction books or fiction books that are “about something real”. In other words, Bella is not to impressed with made up stories. She once told me that they annoy her! So putting together a list for her was a little difficult. But here’s what we found:
- Special Delivery (Animal Rescue Team) by Sue Stauffacher
- 100 Most Feared Creatures on the Planet by Anna Claybourne
- I Am…series by Grace Norwich
- Animal Rescue Team: Hide and Seek by Sue Stauffacher
- Mallory on the Move by Laurie B. Friedman
- The Magical Ms. Plum by Bonnie Becker
- Animal Rescue Team: Show Time by Sue Stauffacher

My kiddos have already started their summer reading, and we actually went to the library yesterday to check out more books. They are doing a special promotion at the library as well, so we walked away with a bunch of goodies.

My daughter is also 8 and she loves animal books, so I know she would love the animal rescue books. She also loves Dork Diaries and Judy Moody. It’s good to have ideas for summer reading!
