It’s hot, humid, and suddenly everyone is talking about Christmas. But not the cozy, hot chocolate by the fire, eating sugar cookies (well…maybe we’re still eating sugar cookies). No, we are talking about Christmas in July…the slightly sweaty, wildly unhinged cousin of December’s jolly celebration. And just to stir the eggnog a bit more, along comes Amazon Prime Day. So what’s really going on? Is it Christmas in July, Amazon Prime Day, or some sort of capitalist fever dream dressed in tinsel?

The Christmas In July Vibe
Christmas in July is like putting on a fuzzy sweater in 95 degree heat just for vibes. Spoiler alert, I won’t be doing that. It’s all about the mid-year magic with Hallmark movie marathons (love that), peppermint scented candles on sale, and fun themed parties destined to get you into the (fake) holiday spirit. But we aren’t the only ones that love it. Brands love it too. Why? Because it’s another way to move those items from last year that no one wanted. But I’m here for it. Who doesn’t want to blast “All I Want for Christmas Is you” while sipping a frozen margarita by the pool?
And Then There’s Amazon Prime Day
Oh, Prime Day. It’s like Black Friday, but with less trampling and more accidental purchases at 1 am. True story, I once was scrolling online and bought a king size mattress topper while I was half asleep. But Amazon Prime Day is different. Everyone gets excited for that, and for good reason.
The Deals? Sometimes amazing…especially this year.
The Temptation? Extreme
The Logic? Gone.
It’s the day, or in this case, the week (almost) when we collectively decide our lives will be better if we just get that Ninja Slushie machine. You know what I’m talking about. You want it too. And let’s not forget…every other store sees Prime Day and yells, “Wait for MEEEEEE!” So suddenly, Target, Walmart, and even your friend’s Etsy shop are doing “Prime-ish” sales too.
