Last year, a friend of mine who has a son that just entered high school, questioned his mother as to why her “old” friends were texting and using terms like “LOL” or “LMAO”, etc. He followed it up with “ugh I hate when old people don’t realize they’re old”. That cracks me up on so many accounts. One…since when is 30 old? And two…I was in middle school when chatting on AOL became big and phrases like “LOL” and “LMAO” came about. Now I’m not pulling an Al Gore here and saying I invented those phrases, but we kind of did, in a way.
Shortly after chatting on AOL became big, the next huge phenomenon was downloading music. Now we all know how that turned out. Sites like Kazaa and others faced all kinds of lawsuits…now there are many digital rights management techniques in place that limit the use of digital content and devices. I honestly think these techniques are in place to protect the artists and really have no issues with them, other than the fact that I really wish I could make a back up copy of my kids video games since they are always scratching them. But for now we just take them to a local video store and they use a special machine to rub the scratches out.
Adobe does a great job with protecting their customers who use their various products by having an application security in place. Here is a blurb from the Adobe website that spells out exactly what precautions they take when it comes to application security:
