It’s Christmas Eve eve and I am sitting here planning our first Christmas Eve where we stay home, just us and the kids. I’m kind of excited about it. With a husband that travels so much, it’s nice to just do family things together. Here is what we are planning:

Cookies for Santa
We haven’t baked our cookies for Santa yet. Normally I go to Gordon Foods and buy the box of pre-cut out sugar cookies to bake and then have the kids decorate. I don’t want that many cookies in the house this year so I didn’t buy it. Instead, I bought tubes of sugar cookie dough and we are going to roll that out and make cut-out Ninjabread Men! Unfortunately, I did not get everything we need to decorate them, so I have to run to Meijer on probably the second busiest day of the year (with tomorrow being the busiest)…wish me luck!
Chinese Take-Out for Dinner
The kids are most excited about this! We are going to have our very own Chinese buffet in our kitchen! The dishes we are thinking about ordering:
- Spicy Diced Chicken
- Sweet and Sour Chicken
- General Tso’s Chicken
- Wonton Soup
- Spring Rolls
- White Rice
True be told, I’m pretty excited for our Chinese buffet tradition too!!
Movie Night
I want to watch National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, but I’m not sure if that is appropriate for a seven and nine year old. I haven’t seen it in years, so I don’t remember it all that well. I just remember thinking it was absolutely hilarious. We do have all of the Santa Claus movies with Tim Allen. Both kids really like those movies and so do Dan and I!
Whatever movie we decide to watch, it will be a very chill evening!
Game Night
The biggest thing the kids want to do is play board games! We have a whole slew of games to play. I’m kind of hoping they want to play a card game like Phase 10. Zachary loves that game and I think it would be good for Bella to learn how to play it. The only game I am NOT willing to play is Monopoly. That game drives me insane!
One Present to Open
We’ve done this tradition with them from the time Zachary celebrated his first Christmas. The present they get to open is one from Dan and I that has a pair of holiday pj’s in it. This year we got Bella a nightgown with cats wearing Santa hats on it…the cute thing (other than the cats!) is that it came with a nightgown for one of her dolls!
Zachary was a little harder to buy for. Because he’s so skinny, I have to find something that has a draw-string so we can make it tighter. I found a pair of pants at Target and for the shirt we got him one with the Grinch on it.
