Prom season is right around the corner and I am sure there are thousands of high school girls running from shop to shop, trying to find the perfect dress. I still remember my first prom. Year after year, whether I was buying a dress for homecoming or prom, I shopped at a store called Gantos. It’s no longer around, which is a shame. This store had every style imaginable.
At my high school, we had two proms: Junior Prom and Senior Prom. I was asked to Junior Prom my sophomore year! I thought I was so cool getting to experience prom before all of my friends! I dug through all of my high school pictures so I could find the dresses I wore.
My ’97 dress was my least favorite. I also hated my hair…I called it my Marge Simpson look! Though, I have to say, that was my first dress that had a slit like that…I remember thinking I was pretty hot with that slit! The dress I wore in ’98 was my favorite. I loved everything about that prom. I think that dress I wore in ’98 is my favorite dress I’ve ever worn, well…besides my wedding dress. I liked that one too! Now…my ’99 dress…that year, the style was to either wear a dress with cut-outs on the side so your skin showed or to wear  princess style dress like I chose.  You can’t see it in the picture, but the intricate work on the bodice was my most favorite part! You wouldn’t catch me wearing a gold color now, but I think I rocked it back then!

We may not have Gantos any longer to get our dresses, but girls can now shop at places like JenJenHouse and find absolutely beautiful dresses. I took a look around the store and boy have styles changed. If I were in high school now, or shopping with Bella to get a dress, I would choose this one (and I would expect my date to walk around with a wind machine):
This is another dress I know I would choose:
Prom dresses have really changed a lot, but I really like how they’ve changed. Shoot, if I had somewhere to go, I’d buy that dress above. I wonder if it’s too formal for the formal dinner on my cruise in April? The one thing that matters, and I wish someone would have told me this when I was in high school, is that you pick what YOU want to wear and don’t worry about what every other girl is wearing. I went to school with over 5000 people. Our proms probably had 1600 people at them. People were bound to have the same dress on. It happens…who cares!
What did your prom dress look like?

My senior year prom dress was a puce color, backless dress that hugged my curves. It was from Saks 5th Avenue and my grandma got it for me. She had me try a few dresses on and she just fell in love with this one, even though it was completely backless. I still have it and I plan on keeping it always.
