12 years. 12 whole years. That’s how long I have been driving. I am a very careful driver. I don’t speed. Ever. Half the time I am driving, my kids are in the car…so speeding would just be very irresponsible of me. Especially when there are a lot of idiot drivers out there. Now my husband…he is like a magnet for tickets. I am constantly harping on him about it. But that all changes today. Today, 12 years after I got my drivers license, I got my first ticket and oh was it a doozie of a ticket.
So let me paint a little picture for you. Dan is driving to the airport (he was going on a business trip). He says to me “make sure you drive the speed limit by the airport. It’s a big speed trap”. I roll my eyes. I know he was being helpful…but remember…I don’t speed.
So anyways I’m leaving the airport and the sign above me (green like a highway sign) says: “Eureka to 275”. So I follow a curve around and was thinking I was on 275. Next thing you know, there is a cop flashing his lights behind me and pulling me over.
The cop walks up to my car and asks for my license. As I am getting it out, my son starts singing at the top of his lungs “My mommy got pulled over by a police man” to the tune of “grandma got run over by a reindeer”. Bella is cheering that there is a cop outside her window…all the while I am wondering what I did wrong. So I ask the cop. He tells me I was going 61 in a 45. Oops. Guess I wasn’t on the highway yet haha.
I was mortified. I got a ticket. I wanted to go my entire life and not get a ticket. Probably because it was the one thing that I could look at my husband and say “I never got a ticket” HAHA! And I don’t know…maybe it could have gone on my tombstone or something. I could see it now:

“Drove X amount of years and NEVER got a ticket!”
Ugh. Now I am going to get points, I have a fine, and my insurance is going to go up. All because I was stupid and thought I was entering the highway.

Oh no! Don't you hate it when the signs are confusing and of course there is a cop around. I just received a ticket (1st in 5 years) this past February due to a non-existent 4 way stop. There were 2 clear stop signs (and I did stop for one) but the one I "missed" was nowhere to be found. I refuse to go down that street now.
I went to court and was given the option to take defensive driving which erases the ticket from my record. You might want to see if that is an option.

Bless your heart, I have never had a ticket either. But I am always terrified that today might be "the day"…

I'm so sorry, but I had to giggle at his song. I could just hear it being sung (as I'm sure my son would do the exact same thing).
Hopefully it'll be a one and only ticket.
