I wish I were making this up, but…sadly…I am not.

Today when Bella and I got home from dropping Zachary off at school we were met with a VERY hyper dog in her crate.  Normally she isn’t like that, but she is pretty much a puppy still, and somewhat excitable, so I figured that was her problem.  Oh how I wish it were just that.

About five minutes after letting her out of her cage a gigantic (totally NOT exaggerating here) black bird comes flying at my head.  I scream and take off running for the front door.  And then I remembered I had a kid in there.  I yell for Bella, who has already hit the deck and was crawling towards me.  We run out the front door and call my husband to get his ass home and get this bird out of the house.  Meanwhile, our dog is in there barking like crazy and chasing this bird all over the first floor.

Now I absolutely HATE birds.  More correctly, I hate things that fly.  Always have.  I still jump at flies from time to time.  So to have a giant black bird in my house flying at my head…so not a good situation.  Dan gets home and tells me that he has a plan.  A guy at work told him to take a shop vac and try and suck the bird up.  Now I know I said I hate birds, but that just seems rather cruel to do on a first try at getting the bird out (hey…I love animals just as much as the next guy, but when I have a bird shitting in my house,  you do what you gotta do).  So instead, Dan puts on big thick gloves and grabs his fishing net and heads inside.  Me and Bella hang out at the end of the driveway waiting for him to tell us he got he bird out.

10 minutes later, Dan walks outside and says everything is clear.  The dumbass bird got itself stuck between the back of our couch and a doorwall window.  Dan opened the door up, and the bird flew out.

Now I’m sure you’re wondering a few things…

*The bird was able to get into the house from the chimney.  The flew (flu???) was open and the fireplace doors were off  because he had put slate tile on the fireplace and had to seal the tiles.  The door is now up against the fireplace tightly with things holding it firmly in place.

*Yes the bird shit in my house.  I am so NOT happy with that.  Especially since I stayed up until 3am this past Friday night cleaning.

Stupid bird.

OMG. That would seriously freak me out, although if I'm being honest, the bird sh*t on my furniture would freak me out even more.

    Yikes!

What a crazy thing to have happen. I remember this happened when I was a kid. The bird was flying around in our basement!

Oh no!! What a funny story though! Living out in the country I have seen my share of animals, but thankfully not a bird or a snake. I would DIE if I saw a snake in my house.
So glad it was so easy for Dan to get out for you! I am laughing at the image of a man trying to suck a bird into a shop Vac – yes that would be cruel but it would be funny to see him try! I don't think he would be very successful

I'd freak too if a bird was in my house-one that wasn't a pet or anything. Not that I have birds for pets at the moment.
What kind of dog do you have. I miss having my little maltese around. 🙁 Glad everything worked out.
