It’s summertime and with summer comes backyard BBQ’s.  We love BBQing in the summer (well anytime of the year really) and one of our favorites is BBQ chicken or ribs.  I’ve been looking for a BBQ sauce that tastes good, but isn’t loaded with high fructose corn syrup.  I’m not as big a fan of BBQ sauce as the rest of my family.  I like it, but I don’t love it.  Until I tried Herman T’s BBQ Sauce.

This particular BBQ sauce comes in a seasoning mix that you mix on the stovetop with water and ketchup.  I buy high fructose corn syrup free ketchup so this particular BBQ sauce is free of the nasty high fructose corn syrup!  Anyway, you mix it all together on the stove and allow it to come to a boil.  Once it boils, you lower the heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.  It’s not as thick as what we are used to, but it was, by far, my most favorite BBQ sauce I’ve ever tried.  I was sent both the regular flavor and the hot flavor.  I made both and the hot was not too hot in my opinion.  My son liked both flavors.

Here is a little about the Herman T BBQ sauce:

Herman T’s BBQ Sauce was created by Herman T Jones back in the 1950’s. Over the years, Herman T would share his sauce with anyone who would stop by the house. Flavored with the sweetness of honey and a touch of Smokey apple wood, this sauce became a huge hit. As time would go on, he finally passed his recipe on to his Grandson Brian, who then recreated the recipe for mass production.  Now today, Chef Brian has turned his Grandfather famous sauce into Herman T’s BBQ Sauce Mix. While keeping all of the essential ingredients intact, this sauce mix is sure to make your mouth dance.

I mixed up one serving of the regular and one serving of the hot for dinner.  My idea of BBQing when my husband is not home is the Foreman grill.  I’m afraid to try out the regular BBQ.  So anyway…gotta stop getting sidetracked, I put the chicken on the Foreman Grill for a few minutes while I made the sauce.  Just before the chicken was done, I brushed the BBQ sauce onto each piece of chicken and cooked them for about 2 more minutes.

This chicken was delicious!  My son ate an entire chicken breast himself!  Even Miss Picky herself attempted to eat the chicken.  And she never eats anything unless it is in the shape of a McDonald’s Chicken nugget!  Head on over to their website for more details and how you can purchase Herman T’s BBQ Sauce for yourself!

I learned that In 2002, the BBQ Sauce was recreated for mass production, without compromising one inch on any ingredient. The sauce was such a hit that Chef Brian decided to develop a mix so the World could make the sauce fresh themselves in a matter of minutes.
