Well…the food that was in my refrigerator and freezer, that is.

We just got power back after it going out at noon on Monday the 11th. Yesterday I stopped by my house after dropping my son off at summer school and the food in my freezer was already defrosted. I immediately called my insurance company to find out if I can put claim in since I JUST went grocery shopping on Sunday. They said of course, told me to open my freezer and fridge doors and snap a picture and make a detailed list (with prices, if possible) of everything I am throwing out. My freezer was stocked. I was so proud of my freezer. I had enough meat to feed my family for the rest of July and probably August too. I had ALL of the hotdogs for my daughters 5th birthday party. I also had 5 bags of Tyson’s Chicken nuggets. My kids LOVE Tyson’s Chicken Nuggets so I stocked up on them with coupons. Now it’s all in the dumpster.

Look at all that food. I had menus planned out for the next few weeks. And now it’s all gone. What kills me is the fact that I used coupons and bottle deposits (just this Sunday) and now when I go to the store today to buy food for my family to get by on for the next week or so, I will probably have to pay full retail. That sucks for an extreme couponer!
Thankfully my home owners insurance will be sending me a check for the food I had to throw away, but it just makes me mad that DTE knows there is a MAJOR problem with how my side of the street is wired on their grid or whatever it is called, yet THEY DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. My parents, who if you remember, live a stones throw away from me. They got their power back on the 11th around 4pm. So did a lot of people directly around me. My street…not till late last night. Unacceptable.
So now I will be spending my afternoon at the grocery store re-buying food. I know I will be able to get my freezer stocked up again and for less using my coupons, it just stinks to know that I really didn’t need to go grocery shopping for the remainder of the summer (minus picking up essentials like eggs, milk, bread, etc).
Here are the other pictures I took:
