We adopted this puppy from the humane society and he is so lovable with me and the kids, but hates my husband. Hate isn’t really the word for it. He fears my husband. I have a feeling Cody was beat before we got him 🙁 Someone mentioned that to me last week or the week before and I didn’t want to believe it, but I’m thinking he was. My heart hurts for this puppy. I know my family and I will give him all the love and attention he needs and he will never have to worry about that again, but still.
Right now I am waiting for a call back from the humane society. They have a behavior line that you call (if you adopted a pet from them) and they will help you with tips, tricks, etc to make things better. Ironically, last night while I was at my sons preschool cleaning and disinfecting the toys with a few other moms, one of the moms had a lot of dog training info and passed on some tips to me.
It just makes me so sad. What kind of person could do this to an animal? A baby animal too. I mean Cody is only 6 months old for Pete’s sake. Poor thing.

I can help, I was the tip line for our humane society (well one of them). What kind of dog is he and what exactly is happening? I commend you for calling to see how to help out and for trying to make it work. All too often people give up and they get put back in the system like juvie puppies. Email me (julie@coolmomguide.com) and I can either help via email or we can chat on the phone. Love you!!!

How’d everything go last night?

pretty good. Dan was home with the kids and the dog because I had to work. Cody stayed in his cage, but did allow dan to set him outside. But as soon as he came back in, he ran and went to his cage.
When I got home, Dan sat on the floor and Cody actually got up and walked right to Dan, carefully, and sniffed him and licked him and actually got close enough to lay down with him!
This morning Cody didn’t growl once! He did run from him, but he didn’t act like he didn’t like him, he just acted like he was checking him out.
So tonight we will lay on the floor again and just keep doing that. We are also moving his crate to our room. This weekend my kids are staying with my inlaws while Dan and I go to Columbus for the Ohio State/Michigan game (we have a lot of family in Columbus) and they told us to bring Cody. So that should also be good…one on one with me and dan as well as some socialization around other people who I know will be gentle with him and not scare him.
Thank you again for your email. 🙂
