My Heart Stopped Yesterday

I had one of those heart stopping moments yesterday. The kids and I ran into Meijers to get a few things and as we were walking out, Bella wiggled out of my hand and took of running into the parking lot. She was literally inches away from being hit by a car. I screamed so loud and thankfully both Bella and the car stopped. I was literally shaking. I thanked the driver for stopping and apologized for her running out in front of the car. And then I looked at my daughter. For a brief moment, I didn’t know whether to scream at her or hug her. I chose to hug her first. But boy did we have a talking on the way home.

This has become a reoccurring chat with Bella lately. She is constantly trying to wiggle out of my grasp. I know people make fun of those kid leashes, but seriously, this child is why those leashes were invented. I’m thinking I may put one on her, which I know will piss her off royal, until she learns that when I am holding her hand that means she does NOT wiggle out of my grasp.

The unfortunate part of last nights event was the fact that it did not scare her at all. I don’t think she realized she almost got hit. I know that may sound horrible to say, but I have always said that my kids are two that need to learn the hard way. Of course I don’t mean she would have to learn her lesson by getting hit by a car, but had it scared her…get what I’m saying? Zachary, now it scared him.

It sure is a good thing I color my hair. My kids are going to make me gray.

I am a believer in kid leashes. I never USED to be. Then I had a child who constantly tries to wiggle away from me and run headlong into danger. Now I have TWO children like that. So yes, the kid leashes come out from time to time!

    So glad she wasn't hurt!

My 6 year old was that child…I too SWORE I would NEVER put my child on a "leash" and critizied those who did…until he came! Then I bought one! I only used it a few times and I got looks! One must do what one must do!
