Always Has to Learn the Hard Way

One thing I am ALWAYS saying in my house to my kids is “do not help yourself to drinks in the fridge…ask me first if you can have it and second to pour it for you”.  The same goes for food.  But, alas, my son always has to learn his lesson the hard way.  I am waiting for that day when I hear 4 little words “you were right mom”…I’m thinking after last nights incident…I may be hearing them real soon.

My daughter had a birthday party with some friends yesterday.  The parents had pop to drink…the kids had apple juice.  I had some Chex Mix and bread you dip in a totally yummy olive oil and spices dip.  Things were really busy that day…with 15 kids 6 and under running around, you can only imagine how busy it was.  I must have forgotten to put the olive oil away after making the bread dipper (that info is key…remember it).

Around 8pm I went upstairs, yelling at my kids to follow me up to bed.  Next thing you know, my son is running to the bathroom telling me his “poop was coming fast”.  And for the next hour he had issues with the liquid poos.  We didn’t really think anything of it…put the kids to bed and headed downstairs to watch TV.  As I am walking into the kitchen, it was like I hit ice and my feet about damn near slid out from under me.  And then I saw the olive oil on the counter next to the ice bucket.  I thought that was weird, but still didn’t really think anything of it until…I saw the glass of olive oil sitting next to the ice bucket too.  Then the events of the evening started to make sense.  My son poured himself a glass of olive oil thinking it was apple juice…took a sip of it, realized it tasted nasty and spit it on the floor.  Meanwhile, the little bit he did drink gave him the liquid poos and the part he spit on the floor made me almost perform a perfect sow cow (hehehe) in my kitchen.

This morning my husband and I asked him about his drink before bed.  Zachary got a look on his face and told us that it “looks like apple juice, but tastes nasty”.

I would love to say he completely learned his lesson, but I’m not so sure!
