How to Plan a Silent Auction Event part one

For months and months and months I have been planning a silent auction for my daughters school.  I have to say, when I started…I was a nervous wreck.  I had NEVER done anything like this before that I was solely in charge of.  Sure I had other board members at the school, but this was my gig.  Talk about stressful.  There were times when I seriously was like “I can’t do this”.  But as the months went by and we got closer and closer to the date of the auction, I started to calm down and realize that not only did I plan everything to a T, but I had kept my things really organized, making it so much easier on myself to execute things and get things done.

There are a few things I learned that are a MUST if you are planning an event like this:

  1. Stay organized…being organized is paramount in the success of an event.
  2. Don’t be afraid to ask for help…that was a problem for me.  I never wanted to inconvenience anyone by asking for help…but now I know…ASK!
  3. Convert to PDF.  When you are mailing or emailing out donation request letters, you don’t want anyone to have the ability to change any of your letters.  Anyone can read PDF with an Adobe reader.

I have to say, the auction was a HUGE success.  Sure we had a few snafu’s with Paypal at checkout, but it all got handled and we made a nice amount of money for the school!  But above all…I learned that I had one it takes to plan and execute an event like this!!
