One thing I’ve always wanted was a tattoo. I know if my parents are reading this they are probably crapping their pants, but I’m 30…I can get a tattoo if I want to! Most people I know that have tattoos got them when they turned 18 and were drunk on spring break. I didn’t do that. Why? Because I knew that if I was going to permanently tattoo something on my body, it was going to hold some sort of meaning for me. My husband has an awesome upper arm band tattoo that he designed himself. One spot of the tattoo is blank for him to add to later. I have great ideas for what he can add there…he’s not digging “Leah” tattooed on his arm as much as I am 😉 (I’m kidding about him tattooing my name on his arm…kind of!)
So when I stop to think about the meaningful things in my life, there’s my kids and husband…but like my husband, I don’t really want to tattoo their names on me. But the second most meaningful thing is the way I’ve fought back against Diabetes and in just about 6 months I’ve lost 42lbs and no longer test under the Diabetic category. That is a HUGE accomplishment. I still have 58lbs to go, but I’ve gotten this far, I know I can lose the full 100 I want to lose.
With that said, I thought it would be a great idea to get a tattoo to showcase the journey I’ve traveled with Diabetes and my weight loss success. I originally wanted a tattoo on my inner right ankle, but I think if I am going to get something that is going to be a constant reminder of how far I’ve come and that I do not EVER want to go back there, I should get it on the underside of my right wrist. That way whenever I eat something I see the tattoo and it reminds me that while I can definitely enjoy food, I don’t have to go crazy with it. I was thinking I would get it once I hit the 50lbs lost mark. That way it is the motivation I need to keep going.
Only problem…I don’t know exactly what I should get. Do I want to get a word? A symbol? If so…what word or symbol?
Leave me a comment with your thoughts and ideas! I’d love to hear them!

I think you are amazing in your weight-loss jourey.
I’ve been wanting to get a tattoo for years, but my husband doesn’t really like them, so I respect his wishes. It’s not that big a deal for me.
I think you should go for a symbol that means something to you.

I think deciding on a tattoo is really tough. Like you said, most people I know got their tattoos on a whim and when they were young. The body parts I wanted to tattoo when I was younger are not so firm now! Maybe you could tattoo the word strength or a symbol representing the strength it took to lose the weight. Congrats on the weight loss!
