I am not a huge cartoon/animated movie person.  They just bore me…most of them.  But one movie I absolutely love is Shrek.  I find the humor hilarious and truly enjoy it as much as my kids do.  Recently I had to the opportunity to The True Story of Puss’n Boots [Blu-ray/DVD Combo].  I was pretty excited to get this…I knew my kids would like it and I was pretty anxious to see it myself.  Unfortunately the movie did not live up to what I was expecting.  I found the voice of Puss ‘n’ Boots to be a tad on the annoying side.  I wanted, more than anything, to turn the movie off, but my daughter liked it.

Personally, I would not purchase this movie…if you saw it in a Redbox, maybe get it, but quite honestly, if you have a Family Video near you, I would wait until it goes to the FREE kids section and rent it then if you really must see it.  I really hate to give this a bad review and very rarely give a bad review…mainly because I take on product reviews of items that I actually really want and usually end up loving.  I wish that were the case with this movie.

The True Story of Puss ‘n’ Boots stars the Emmy and Golden Globe winner, William Shatner as the voice of Puss.  Normally I love William Shatner, especially when the show Boston Legal was on.  OMGosh he was hilarious on that show…and I truly think he would be amazing as an animated characters voice…just not this movie.  Sorry William.

That’s too bad that it wasn’t any good.

What else besides his voice makes you dislike the movie? I guess with having to watch Dora and Diego daily, I get past the annoying voice thing pretty quickly! lol! We’ve seen commercials for this but my daughter hasn’t asked to watch it so I guess we’re safe!

Honestly…pretty much everything about the movie. I kept dozing off during it, but there were parts where my daughter would jump on me and try to hide her face. The animation was weird.

I totally agree that the voice of puss is annoying! And yes, I agree with you too on the weird annimations. Kind of reminded me of Charlie and the Chocolate factory weird, with that singing too, LOL. But, my kids LOVE it, go figure!

Well at least your daughter liked it. Sounds like it’s the kind of movie to put on for her while you vacuum! 😉

It was kinda of a “dark” movie too. My daughter did not like it.

I was hoping this would be a good movie … we just got it. I don’t have hopes of the kids actually sitting through the whole thing now as they don’t do well doing that most of the time. =/
Maybe if your daughter liked it I should hold out some hope though. Thanks for the honest review!

It’s odd that William Shatner would even be part of this movie right now since the Dreamworks version is about to come out. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a kids movie get such awful reviews on Amazon. I’m curious to see a few minutes of it just to see if it’s really that creepy/weird.
